The couples that Olympic together, stay together.

Actually, I have no idea whether putting yourself through a highly-pressured professional two weeks while your other half asks if you remembered to pack their toothbrush/phone charger/spikes is a good idea of romantic harmony.

There are several couples in action at Rio 2016 though.

Buzzfeed , externalhas thrown together a little compilation, kicked off by Great Britain's Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh.

I've just watched Vicenzo Nibali and Sergio Henao's crash on the final descent in the men's road race. And a pitiless television motorbike whizz within a few feet on its way to chase the leaders.

Max Whitlock's gunshow of a singlet?

    Or William Fox-Pitt's topper?

'The pecs, the rippling abs: Incredible Adam Peaty'published at 09:20

    Swimming

    David Carry
Three-time Commonwealth gold medallist on BBC TV

Adam Peaty is incredible. The guy in the next lane to him was the second best in the whole world, and he's way behind. Peaty's almost a second and a half ahead of everybody else - in a one-minute race.

He's a very powerful guy- you can see that from his physique. His pecs, his rippling abs... he's a huge machine and is able to use that to brilliant effect. And he's also very technical too - he manages to reduce his drag very efficiently - and that combination is why he is as good as he is.

'They were like fish out of water'published at 09:06 British Summer Time 7 August 2016

    Road cycling

    Rob Hayles
Former GB cyclist on BBC TV

Last night all of the women riders will have been watching the men's race going: 'Wow.' The chaos we saw could potentially change their plans - will riders we want to go in an early break now? We could see more caution.

On the third crossing of the cobbles yesterday there was a real lull with the guys because over the previous two laps it was carnage. Chains coming off everywhere, seats slipping down - the bikes weren't set up for it. You don’t normally see that. They were like fish out of water.
