They dismiss Kenya with plenty to spare. Japan are next in their sights. That kicks off at 21:00 BST.

    Eventing medal round

William Fox-Pitt out on Chilli Morning now, rounding off what is undoubtedly an exceptional Olympics, considering he only returned to eventing in April after being placed into an induced coma a serious head injury last October.

Of course, he was leading the field after dressage, but slipped to 21st after a troublesome cross country.

And that is brilliant, another faultless round from a British team member, only four penalties jointly between the team.

What a shame it all went wrong on Monday.

Pippa Funnell, the third of the Great Britain contingent, has also got round the show jumping circuit without accruing a penalty.

Too little too late of course. If, and when, the British team do miss out on a medal, it will be their first failure since Atlanta 1996.

Cordina just did not do enough, his movement was excellent, he made his opponent miss time and again but failed to score with the twos and three, he could get single shots in. I think he could have won that contest.

South Africa have seen off Spain 24-0 at the Deodoro.

That clears the way for Great Britain's men to make their sevens bow. They are going to take on Kenya.

Kenya are no slouches either. They finished above England, Wales and Scotland in the World Sevens series this year.

    Eventing medal round

Britain's hopes of a medal in the eventing competition are distant, at best, after a poor day of cross country on Monday, but they have made a good start to the decisive show-jumping round. Kitty King on Ceylor LAN and Gemma Tattersall aboard Quicklook accrued just four time penalties between them.

The medals look like coming down to a battle between Australia, New Zealand, Germany and France.

So Kat Copeland cannot defend her Olympic title, alongside new partner Charlotte Taylor in the lightweight women's double sculls. They miss out on a chance to make the main final, but you cannot say it was unexpected after a poor season.

.Cheers from the British fans as they row back past them, but they don't look up and cannot hide their disappointment.

Looking on the bright side, GB have half of their 12 crews into finals and there are plenty more chances to come
