'Road tyres would make a difference'published at 12:33 British Summer Time 10 August 2016

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

The riders are going to have to be so careful in these conditions. There is less climbing than I was expecting but it's good time-trial territory.

With the potential for rain, one of the things I'd have done straight away is a get a set of race wheels with road tyres on - thicker and not time trial tyres. That would make a big difference today but other than that the preparation should be the same.

If it stays cloudy, we've had a good amount of rain over night, it should probably stay wet. If the surface is wet everyone has to ride the same way.

The rain and wind that has postponed the rowing for the day is going to make for a tough grind of a time trial.

The women's 30km route, external tracks the coast before heading inland to tackle the Grumari (1.3km long at 9.4% average gradient average) and Grota Funda climbs (2.13km at 6.8%).

First down the ramp is Poland's Anna Pilchta. The rest of the field follow at 90-second intervals.

Great Britain's sole representative Emma Pooley gets going at 12:45 BST, 15th from last.

Van Tichelt gave chase and ended up with a black eye.

No word on what happened to the thief and the phone from the Belgian media., external I don't think it can have been pretty though.
