    Men's long jump final

The long jumpers hoping to win the Olympic title that Greg Rutherford took four years ago are going for gold.

But at least they only have one event to compete in.

Back at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, American Carl Lewis managed to win the long jump gold, as well as further golds in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. Great effort.

Look how many leaps over 8.5m in the 90s!

Greg Rutherford - with all due respect - would not have been near the peak of his sport during the era of Carl Lewis and co.

    Athletics: Men's 400m semi-finals

Great Britain's Matthew Hudson-Smith has a huge smile on his face after smashing his personal best and booking his place in the men's 400m final.

He told BBC One: "That was crazy. I messed up on the transition on the top bend. I have no idea what just happened. It was improvised.

"My coaches and team-mates always tell me to control your emotions. When they went past me I thought 'OK', and just started kicking.

"When I saw the time, that I had come second and made the final I couldn't believe it. I still have a lot to learn and work on. It wasn't the best of runs but I'm really excited for the final."

Matthew Hudson-Smith judged it well as he made a mistake from the start to 200, but he corrected it - it was a great adjustment.

He conserved a bit from 200 to 300 to go for it at the end and you can't run 400m pushing all the way.

He put himself in a position to come off the bend and finish strong with a personal best. He is starting to establish himself with his consistency. He is in the final where anything can happen. Great to see him show some experience. Nice job.

    A hat-trick?published at 00:56 British Summer Time 14 August 2016

    Women's 100m semis

Only one woman has worn Olympic gold in the 100m since 2008 - Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Gail Devers knows exactly what winning back-to-back golds is like after taking 100m glory in Barcelona and Atlanta. And she thinks Fraser-Pryce can make it a hat-trick tonight.

"You may see an Olympic record here," Devers told BBC World Service.

"For the last eight years, nobody has been faster than her when it counts. Her and Usain Bolt have the same stats.

"I don’t care if they say she is injured. If she makes it to the final, you better watch out. She has experience and that girl runs with heart. And that is what a true champion does."

Great Britain captain Kate Richardson-Walsh was delighted with her side's form after they beat United States 2-1 to finish their group with five wins from five.

“If you’d offered us top spot at the start of the week I’d have bitten your hand off," she said. "All the sides are excellent in this tournament so I’m really proud of what we've done so far.

“We had to show resilience tonight. USA are full of positive energy and resilience so we had to feed off that. Momentum plays a big part.

"The Dutch, Argentina and Australia always do it well. They keep building the performances at tournaments and that’s what we’re doing here.”
