Double gold medalist Max Whitlock on BBC One: "I had to stick to the plan. I had to refocus and nearly foget about he gold medal I had won on floor.

"You can sort of feel when a routine is going well. You need to not think about it, and continue on as best as you possibly can.

"After that you’ve done a job and you have to be happy."

And, after that, attention turns to the velodrome.

Mark Cavendish, searching for the Olympic medal that has so far eluded him, is tied for second with two events of the omnium to go. Defending champion Laura Trott also continues her own omnium bid.

Spectators at the Olympic Park are using anything they can to protect themselves from the rays. It's like walking in an enormous sauna. Suncream is being slapped on, shade is being sought.

One thought: there's a swimming pool nearby which won't be used again this week. Pool party anyone?

Traditional Greek music rings out around the Olympic Arena to celebrate Eleftherios Petrounias' golden performance on the rings.

Members of the Greek team are on the first floor dancing in traditional Greek style, the quicker the music goes, the quicker they go. The majority of spectators clap along. The music speeds up again, on they go. This is fabulous. Someone pass me a plate.

  13. Can Team GB finish above China?published at 18:48

With more than 200 gold medals to their name, China have become one of the dominant nations in the Olympics since their debut in 1984.

In that time, Great Britain have never finished above them in the medal table.

But halfway through day 10 of the Rio 2016 Games, Team GB sit second in the standings, above the Chinese on 16 golds.

With seven days to go, could Britain retain their hold on second?

    BBC Sport takes a look.

You can find out the answer to that and where he's kept his medal since winning it in our chat with him earlier., external

Day 10 and enthusiasm for fancy dress, flag waving (or flag wearing), is as strong as ever at the Olympic Park. The giant orb is in the mood to sizzle some skin so anyone wearing more layers than necessary get extra marks.
