Through the seasons, Sophie has been grafting, trying to iron out those chinks in the armour to make sure she was ready for this competition.

It is simply, simply fantastic what she has achieved here.

We love the big stars of the sport but what I love is when someone surprises us and delivers on the big occasion.

She held it together well, but Keri-anne Payne was clearly holding back the tears during her post-race interview after missing out on the Olympic 10km open water podium.

"I'm probably being a bit emotional because of all of the people that have helped me get here and that's not how I wanted the race to go," she tells me.

"I was hoping for rough, choppy conditions today, but it was the perfect race for pool swimmers which I think is why you saw Sharon (van Rouwendaal) who's a 400m world silver medallist become an Olympic champion today."

"I'm not going to be one of those rowers and say I'll never be back, I won't be that dramatic," she says with a smile.

"So I won't hang up my goggles just yet, but I am taking a break though - I need to catch up with family and friends and have some time for my business."

"We’re not the most gifted, the most quickest but we work hard," Langridge said.

"It shows that when two people put their mind to something, you can achieve something.

"It’s insane. The way we’re playing, I’m well up for a medal."

They'll face Chinese duo Haifend Fu and Nan Zhang in tomorrow's semi-final at 13:30 BST.
