There are still plenty of hours in the day for others to usurp them, but these Dutch handball fans lead the day 11 best dressed standings. Top marks for style and enthusiasm.

Their team are through to the semi-finals and there could be more Dutch celebrations in the gymnastics as reigning Olympic champion Epke Zonderland is in the men's horizontal bars final at the Olympic Arena.

GB's Nick Thompson heads into the last lap in fifth place, which puts his already slim chances of bronze on the back burner.

It's getting interesting for gold though.

Overall leader Croatia's Tonci Stiapnovic is down in ninth place. That opens the door for Australia's Tom Burton - but he's eighth and that's no good. In fact, he's in danger of giving up silver to New Zealand's Sam Meech.

Argentina's men celebrated wildly, and rightly so, after an outstanding win over two-time reigning Olympic champions Germany. Gonzalo Peillat scored three penalty corners in the first half an hour as the Argentines went 5-0 up, before the Germans managed a couple of late consolations.

Awaiting Argentina in the final will be the winners of the second semi-final between Belgium and the Netherlands at 21:00 BST.

I'm sure you had this in your diary already, but the synchronised swimming duets final is on like Donkey Kong.

No British interest, but don't tell me you're not a little curious.

    You can watch it here.

A couple of fellas on a power boat (unfair for a start - imagine if football referees had Segways) point a red flag at someone.

For a moment it looks like it's pointing directly at the boat with the British flag on it. Breathe easy though Nick Thompson - it's the Argentine Julio Alsogaray.

The Laser medal race is go. Can GB's Nick Thompson win a medal, I hear a few of you ask?

    Well, yes, yes he can.

He could sneak a bronze if - he wins the race AND puts five places between himself and Sam Meech of New Zealand.

    I mean, it's almost a banker... eek.

You remember how USA keeper Hope Solo, external suggested that Sweden set up camp to defend in the quarter-final match? Well, it seems that this apparent tactic has been employed again against Brazil.

The host side have had wave after wave of attack, but Sweden have parked the bus and barely been in the Brazil half. Cue boos from the home crowd. Pretty it ain't.

GB's Ben Maher and Nick Skelton have squeezed into the individual showjumping final on Friday - both picked up eight penalty points.

Skelton was given a contentious penalty on a water jump - there was debate over whether his horse's foot went into the wet stuff.

But both are through and here's the good news: the scores are reset. Whoop!

The eight teams through to tomorrow's final are: USA, the Netherlands, Brazil, Germany, France, Canada, Sweden and Switzerland.

GB finished 12th with 13 faults - eight faults would have seem them through.

There may be slightly better news in the individual competition though...

Britain's Alison Young won that final race to finish in eighth place overall.

One minute there's all sorts going on at the fan park - dancing, singing, a football game with a giant inflatable ball. Then, there's hush as everyone sits to look at the big screen because Mr Usain Bolt is racing. Cheers for the great Jamaican as he eases over the line. There is no-one else with such global appeal, no-one else in his sport who can stop Brazilians dancing.
