That's it! Germany were ruthless, efficient, any other stereotype you want to chuck their way. They have secured a final against hosts Brazil.

In this is your first taste of Olympic hockey, it's worth noting that a drawn game would send us straight to penalties. Early penalty corner for New Zealand given for a GB foot.

As Olympic mascot Vinicius slots a penalty on the pitch - not for the first time at this Games - many spend half time pointing out the latest blaze in the Deodoro hills. A daily occurrence now. As regular as a Vincius celebration.

That seals it! Germany add a killer second on the break with a minute to go.

Davie Selke blasts a shot across goal and sub Nils Petersen slides in to convert his sixth of the tournament from an acute angle.

Germany v Brazil in the final then. 7-1?

Off they trot, just 30 minutes away from bettering the bronze of London.

It's taken a lot of focus, sacrifice and spirit to get here.

Remember this is a team who have a shed next to their training field where they meet to air all their issues as a squad. There's honesty in the quest for harmony.

    It's working.

That's it for the diving for tonight and Tonia Couch is safely through to the semi-final. She qualifies in fifth place and returns tomorrow to try and seal a place in the final.

No joy for Sarah Barrow, sadly. She missed out on a place in the top 18 by finishing 23rd.

"Although it's quite an easy hole, it was nice to birdie the first and be able to say I birdied my first hole as an Olympian," said Charley Hull after carding a round of 68.

The 20-year-old Briton is three shots behind leader Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand after the opening round of the women's tournament.

I wouldn't say Great Britain are deserving of the lead.

Every time New Zealand get it they look so good coming forward.

If GB continue to give up that much possession New Zealand will get something out of this.

    "Keep going girls, come on."

As New Zealand line up a penalty corner, Sam Quek's boyfriend starts smashing his drum. Anything to prevent an equaliser before the break.
