Wonderful scenes and very well done indeed.

For Mills and Clark, the gold is one better than the silver they won in London four years ago. At 36, Clark has already declared that these will be her last Olympics. Mills is still unsure about her future.

As a partnership, they end with four World Championship medals, including gold in 2012, to go with Olympic gold and silver.

I don't think we saw the best of Mills and Clark today but they won't care about that and I don't care about that.

It's fifth for Kyle Evans, so five points. No drama in that race. Evans will have to improve in the next two races in order to reach the semis.

Phillips has not had a great deal of good luck this season.

It was a really heavy impact. It looked pretty grim.

Phillips was pushed wide by David Graf and went down. Then, another bike hit the deck and hit Phillips, pushing him off the side of the track. Really, really nasty. He's now on his feet, but in trouble in these quarter-finals.

He gets eight points for not finishing. Canada's Tory Nyhaug won that heat.

Well what has happened there? Liam Phillips has gone off the track and taken a heavy fall over the side of the course, a drop of about 10 or 12 feet. This is worrying.

That is thoroughly deserved. They have worked tirelessly since silver in London 2012.

They have eliminated all of their weaknesses and it has all come together here in Rio.
