Former Arsenal maverick Andrey Arshavin has, for reasons that are not quite clear, been asked for his opinion on the doping scandal that has engulfed his native Russia.

"Though it's angered a lot of people, in my opinion, there's doping in all repetitive sports," the 35-year-old told Prosport. , external

"It is simply impossible to succeed without doping. I think everyone dopes."

Some Arsenal fans might suggest that legal or otherwise he could have done with some serious performance enhancement by the end of his time at the Emirates.

"I'm devastated," ex-GB fighter turned Moldovan Olympian Aaron Cook after his shock opening round defeat in Rio.

"I made the switch from GB after the devastation of missing London 2012 and not feeling I had a way back. Moldova gave me a chance and had such high hopes.

"Why did I have a day like that at the Olympics!?" says a forlorn-looking Cook.

"I wanted to put on a show for those who have supported me and win that gold medal, but I just feel I've let everyone down."

Aaron Cook, British born but representing Moldova after not being selected for London 2012, has lost in the last-16 to Liu Wei-Ting, which means there is no chance of a humdinger of a final between Cook and Lutalo Muhammad, the London 2012 bronze medallist and the man preferred to Cook four years ago. Muhammad, of course, won earlier and is safely through to the quarter-finals, where he will take on American Steven Lopez.

Wrestling. A funny sport, mainly because I'm not quite sure of what's going on. It reminds me of when my brother and I would grapple as kids, but without the screaming and crying. Obviously, there is a greater skill to it than that.

It's a vocal crowd in the arena, two bouts taking place simultaneously so there are plenty to cheer for. But my time here must be brief as, next door, Aaron Cook will soon fight in the men's -80kg in taekwondo.
