Great Britain's Tom Daley after his semi-final elimination: "I have worked so hard these past four years and yesterday I got an Olympic record but today it just wasn’t meant to be, that is what diving does.

"I truly am heartbroken. I felt in peak physical condition and I thought I could have won. It is really hard to accept.

"Today my mind and body weren’t clicking. I was giving it my all and training has been really good. The other guys did amazing.

"I’m so happy with how GB have done, so proud to be part of it and I wanted to be able to stand on top of that podium so it will be another four years of hard work."

It looks like it will be one of these two women for gold. Sweden's Jenny Rissveds and Poland's Maja Wloszczowska - both considered outside medal chances - are 30 seconds out in front.

Britain's former world champion Helen Jenkins after finishing 19th in the triathlon: "I just didn’t have any top-end power and felt a bit off the last couple of days.

"It's the Olympics and I gave it everything but that was the best I could do. I was really up for this today – I'm so proud of Vicky (Holland) and Non (Stanford), they fought for that."

Right. Modern pentathlon is not straightforward, but here's an attempt at explaining the current standings.

Britain's Jamie Cooke is top after setting an Olympic record of 1min 55.60secs in the swim.

But that's slightly misleading, as the points from the fencing ranking round have yet to be added on and Cooke struggled in that - the fencing bonus round is forthcoming.

GB's other entry Joe Choong is third - he's in better shape in the fencing.

After that there's the showjumping and then the combined run-shoot.

    Understand? Good.

On a list of Olympic sports I'm way too wimpy to do, mountain biking would be near the top (of a very long list).

It's remarkable to watch though, such a grind.

Sweden's Jenny Rissveds has the early advantage in the women's cross-country and is looking to pull away.

No British interest in this one, but you can watch it here.

South Korea's Inbee Park is six shots ahead of Chinas Shanshan Feng and New Zealand's Lydia Ko on the 18th hole.

GB's Charley Hull will have to wait until Tokyo 2020 for another shot at winning an Olympic medal.

Britain's Non Stanford after losing out on bronze to housemate Vicky Holland: "I feel a bit mixed. I'm delighted Vicky got the medal we came as a team to get, and we walk away with one. We asked Jonny Brownlee before the race what it was like and all he sad was 'it's really hard'.

"I don't think I could ask much more of myself. Fourth is probably the worst place to come but it's still fourth at the Olympics. We have one medal in the home now and we can put it on display."

It's been a fine Olympic debut for Britain's Charley Hull but she is going to just miss out on the medals after closing with a round of 68 to finish eight under par. A 74 on Friday hurt her top-three chances.

Meanwhile, South Korea's Inbee Park is romping towards gold on 15 under, with four players battling for the other medals.

GB's triathlon bronze medallist Vicky Holland after beating her housemate Non Stanford into fourth: "I can't describe it. I've had a rollercoaster 24 hours. I've been a bit sick and didn't know how I would feel today. I knew it would come down to me and Non, which was the worst thing ever because I wanted this to be us together. I think the first thing I said was 'I'm so sorry'. What can you do when there were two better girls on the day?

"I kept thinking it's going to be one of us and I have to put out of my mind that we're best mates and housemates."
