    Women's featherweight (57kg) round of 32

There are high hopes for the British boxing team in Tokyo and it has been an impressive start for the first fighter in action, women's featherweight Karriss Artingstall.

The 26-year-old, who is a gunner in the Royal Artillery, beat Botswana’s Keamogetse Sadie Kenosi, the world number four, in her opening bout with a unanimous 5-0 win.

Artingstall was dominant throughout as Kenosi struggled with her headguard in all three rounds and she needed to take a time out for it to be adjusted.

She will now face Brazil’s Jucielen Romeu in the round of 16.

    Men's road race

    Here's Richard Carapaz's winning moment.

Of course, the 234km was well worth it for him.

However, if you've ever put yourself through an ordeal and come away with nothing, do let me know. Text and tweet.

One more thought on that road race. Can you imagine slogging your guts for six hours and coming away empty-handed?

Is there a more gruelling event in the Olympics?

It took 63 hours from waters breaking to our first born arriving. That was gruelling. My other half had a rough time too.

'I was cramping everywhere' - Yatespublished at 09:47 British Summer Time 24 July 2021

    Men's road race

GB's Adam Yates, who finished ninth, speaking to BBC Sport: "It was a really tough day but I think we did the best we could. In the end I just didn't have the legs.

"I was cramping everywhere. First race back in a long time and I just did the best I could.

"There was a bit of a head wind on the final straight. I think with the guys there, I was never going to win anyway.

"I tried to go a little bit early on the other side. I'm not sure where I finished in the end but I couldn't have done much more. Good day in the office.

"It was a tough day in general, having two guys down early. Also, I haven't raced in a long time and everyone else is coming from the Tour.

"It wasn't the most ideal prep - but I think we can be happy. We'll come back and try again."
