It’s absolutely roasting on the course already with temperatures around 27° and humidity of 75%.
Pretty standard for this time of year in Tokyo mind so quite a few measures have been introduced for athlete safety.
As well as race start times being shifted to earlier in the day to avoid higher temperatures, there are extra water stations on the running course, air-conditioned athletes’ areas prior to and post-competition and medical personnel stationed every 500m along the 10km running course.
Believe it or not special paint has also been applied on the roads to reduce heat reflection.
Basically pretty much everything that can be done to reduce heat exposure is in play.

Vincent Luis is a two-time reigning world champion - and a man transformed from the also-ran in Beijing and London who very nearly quit in 2018.
Three years ago the Frenchman was disillusioned and made a decision to leave his training group in Reims, France to move across the pond and join the Joel Filliol training group in the United States, which included three- time world champion Mario Mola from Spain.
“I took some time off in spring 2018 and I asked myself: “I’m 30, what else can I do that I have not done yet? What do I want to do?”
"I’m not married, I don't have kids, so I had to try and get out of the comfort of my training group to join international athletes just to shake things up.”

GB triathlete Non Stanford, speaking on BBC One: "Whenever you have a fellow countryman in the pack, you can look out for each other and maybe help each other out. But at this point, between Alex and Jonny, it'll be every man for themselves. Both of them want that spot on the podium.
"I don't think they will actively try and hurt each other's chances but I don't think there will be any team tactics to help one get a medal over the other."
