    'Women's C1 worth Olympic status'published at 09:25 British Summer Time 29 July 2021

I think there has been a concerted campaign across all the sports to have equal parity, equal medals between men and women.

[Great Britain] has got a great track record in the men's C2, you may remember medals coming in - particularly in London 2012 - then it was announced the men's C2 would be phased out and the women's C1 would be coming in.

It was controversial. There were some discussions, shall we say, among the paddling circles about its merits, but I think that competition proves it.

Well worth its Olympic status. And a competition of that level just proves it.

Tom Dean and Matthew Richards, half of the gold medal winning 4x200m freestyle relay team, caught up with BBC Radio 5live earlier this morning.

Tom Dean pipped team mate Duncan Scott to the gold medal in the men's 200m freestyle final, on their rivalry Tom said: “We push each other on and I think we’ve moved the 200m freestyle along in British swimming. We challenge each other at every race but we are great mates both in and out of the pool.

“I think it’s quite healthy, for example I’ve looked up to Jimmy for ages because he’s done amazing things in the pool, he’s my training partner, he’s a great mate but a few times a year you have to switch that off for a few minutes! At the end of the day he’s just another competitor. But what more could you want? Competing at the highest level of international racing and bringing home medals with your mates from the same team, it doesn’t get better than this!"

    Coward-Holley wins bronze

Great Britain's Matthew Coward-Holley said he was "a little bit lost for words" after winning bronze in the men's trap shooting final.

"It's my first Olympics so to come away with a medal, it's phenomenal," he said.

The world and European champion, 26, was among Team GB's gold medal hopes but paid the price for a slow start, missing three of his first 10 targets.

He recovered with 14 successive hits to climb into medal contention.

And breathe...as Britain claims its 17th and 18th medals of the Games, let's have a little look at some of the stories of Day Six so far.

Surprised Elena Rybakina's racquet is still intact. Most other players would have nuked it after not taking any of SIX set points and losing the opener.

The Kazakh 15th seed led 5-2 against Swiss opponent Belinda Bencic in their women's singles semi-final and was unable to take two set points at 5-4.

Four more went begging at 6-5, again on Bencic's serve, and then the almost-inevitable happened - the ninth seed cruised through the tie-breaker.

Over on court one, another breaker was needed to separate France's Ugo Humbert and Russian Karen Khachanov in the first set of their men's quarter-final.

Neither man broke serve before Khachanov made a fast start in the first-set decider and won 7-4.

I find it difficult to watch that sport!

Mallory Franklin... does everything right, goes down the course in a fantastic time, then you have got to stand there in the tent and watch everyone else come down and gradually they reshuffle the podium positions.

Then there's a moment you're guaranteed a medal, then it's still up for grabs right at the end!

But hats off to Jess Fox. A champion's performance. Not easy when you know exactly what's required of you, sitting in the start gate, as the last one to go.

  13. Franklin out-foxed in race for goldpublished at 08:40 British Summer Time 29 July 2021

This was Mallory Franklin's silver medal-winning run.

Considering Jessica Fox's domination of the event, I don't think the Briton would take it back.

Jessica's father by the way is Richard Fox, a 10-time world champion who finished fourth in the men’s K1 at the 1992 Olympics for Great Britain. She maybe there is a small slice of the gold that Britain can claim....

Right at the death Mallory Franklin is moved from the top of the podium to the silver meal position.

It's still a stunning silver - she couldn't have done any better in her run!

Sometimes you just have to take your hat off and say under that sort of pressure and knowing the time she had to beat, that was flawless by Jessica Fox.

You just have to applaud that, honestly that was absolutely sensational!
