Jonny Brownlee wants to put the accelerator now early on this run leg. He's five metres up on Kevin McDowell of the USA.

To mark your card, Great Britain in first had a 26 second lead on fifth-placed Belgium after the bike. So it appears there are four teams in it and Brownlee is seemingly trying to run a couple of them out of it too!

This my friends is a graph. I think that at 00:04 on a Saturday morning, it's what is called for.

The green line shows Team GB are ahead of our medal tally at the last two Olympics.

I'll bring you a look ahead to our medal hopes on Saturday a little later.

    Dina's in there.

    Speaking on BBC One

I'm nervous but we're in the best possible situation now. Our biggest threat is the US team. We've got rid of France but they could maybe make ground up.

I wouldn't be surprised if GB stay in the top three in this race, barring any incidents.

Looks at the moment that the medals will come from the leading four counties

USA, GB, Germany and the Netherlands

If you are wondering about the Norwegian team - they only qualified one woman, so not enough to make up a team.

Kevin McDowell of the USA leads from Jonny Brownlee on the bike leg. The pair are part of a four-man breakaway.

Remember the relay goes woman, man, woman, man. So things can change around a great deal.

Brownlee on to lap two of two on the bike.

Jess Learmonth, you've been harsh on yourself there. A serious effort!

    BBC One

Jess Learmonth speaks on BBC One after completing leg one of this relay: "I lost a few places at the end. I emptied the tank and hopefully we pick it up. I emptied the tank in the run and I bet I looked a right mess. I was flinging my arms and trying any way to get forward.

"I'd say I was the weakest link. If I'm out of the way we're alright!"

The second swim leg is about to conclude, Germany closely followed by USA and closely followed by Jonny Brownlee. The chasers are about 30 seconds back from the leading four

Jessica Learmonth is not letting Katie Zaferes go. Zaferes wants to get to the first hand over first but it won't be by much. Now Jonny Brownlee is running towards the waters edge. Brownlee is very much in touch.

There's a JCB on a building site by my house that can't dig like Jess Learmonth.

Look at her, get in that pain cave!

She's glued to Katie Zaferes and if she can hold this it will be a fine start. She's even trying to pull away from the American.

To the first handover.... Zaferes is home a second or so before the pair of Germany's Laura Lindemann and Learmonth.

    Jonny Brownlee, over to you.

Jessica Learmonth has nailed these transitions. The leaders have a substantial lead over the chasing group. Learmonth is fast over the shorter distances. Jonny Brownlee is waiting to go in the next leg.

This GB mixed relay team wouldn't have love the chance to add a medal to that table I've just posted.

We reach transition from bike to run on leg one. Jess Learmonth is in and out of transition quicker than I can pack my bags at the checkout.

I love it. Shoes off, shoes on, let's go.

She leads. Katie Zaferes of the USA is a very handy runner and she's right on her back. Remember it's just a couple of miles or so for a run, so it's an eyeballs out experience.

Bethany Shriever claimed a thrilling BMX gold and Duncan Scott extended his streak in the pool as Great Britain won six Olympic medals on Friday.

A silver for Kye Whyte in the BMX men's race was Britain's first in the event at an Olympic Games, and a first gold quickly followed through Shriever in the women's race.

Duncan Scott claimed his third medal in Tokyo with silver in the men's 200m individual medley, while Luke Greenbank took 200m backstroke bronze.

The men's eight won a rowing bronze and Bryony Page added another in the women's trampolining.

Jessica Learmonth is by far the strongest swimmer. But there is only 300m to swim. She's the first out of the water and she is working really hard in these early moments on the bike.
