Jessica Turner was the only GB athlete to progress from the women's 400m hurdles heats and after clocking 56.83 seconds she tells BBC Sport: "It was a very rusty run. I did well to hurdle four and it went downhill. I grit my teeth in the last 200m but I need to sharpen up. I'll have to run a PB to get into the final, I'll have to run my heart out."

  19. 'Richardson's absence is disappointing for the sport'published at 01:39 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    Women's 100m

    Steve Cram
    Athletics commentator on BBC TV

Sha'Carri Richardson may well have started as the favourite for the women's 100m in Tokyo. I’m disappointed for the sport that she's not here. We’ve all been watching her for three or four years because she’s been a prodigious young talent and smashing records at college while grappling with how she wants to pursue the sport.

I hope we’ll see her racing the rest of the season. She could do if she wants to because her ban will finish. Next year the World Championships are in Eugene so I fully expect her back for the World Championships in 2022 and 2023 and then the Paris Olympics. The next three or four years she could be the dominant force.
