Sifan Hassan has decided to press ahead with her ambitious bid for an Olympic treble despite the searing heat and humidity at the Tokyo Games.

The 28-year-old world 1500m and 10,000m champion said on Friday she was reconsidering her daunting 1500m, 5,000m and 10,000m programme after an energy-sapping 5,000m semi-final.

However, the 28-year-old Ethiopian-born Dutch distance runner has decided to go for the clean sweep. In a statement on Sunday, she said: "For me it is crucial to follow my heart.

"Doing that is far more important than gold medals. That keeps me motivated and it keeps me enjoying this beautiful sport."

Hassan will run in Monday's early 1,500m heats and then return to the track roughly 12 hours later to attempt to claim gold in the 5,000m.

    Men's 4x100m medley relay final

    BBC Sport

Luke Greenbank, Adam Peaty, James Guy & Duncan Scott spoke to BBC Sport's Sharron Davies after winning the silver medal:

Greenbank: "This week has been unbelievable for British swimming. Bit sad we didn't get the gold."

Peaty: "I laid it all down. I knew I had to do an extremely fast time, Unfortunately we didn't do enough to get the gold medal but sometimes you need to feel a little pain.

"I know these guys are disappointed and that's just an honest opinion on what we think we can do."

Greenbank: "It's not my main event but I have been working on it in training. It's obviously frustrating especially with momentum the team has had this week. We can build on this and come back stronger."

Scott: "I'm very fortunate to be part of some good relay teams. In 2015 when we started coming together, we would take back-to-back silvers all day. We all swam well. slightly disappointed with mine but it's been a tough week."

    What next?

Peaty: "Wait for a new generation to come through in all sports, one that is a lot more aware of self.

"We'll take a big break and we'll use this to reflect. But we've come a long way."

"It's an unbelievable journey I've had on the way here.

"I am just so stoked. I don't think it will sink in for a while. For Charlotte [Worthington] to do her things today and put a score and tricks up there that we had never seen before it was even harder focusing.

"I knew the run I wanted to pull, I still missed a few bits out but to be honest I think that is all I had. But honestly third place for me is a mental.!

And those on the bridge are here to see home favourite Rim Nakamura go for gold. They are out with phones and flags.

There are big flips, tailwhips, bar combos, and even something called a windshield wiper. Will it be enough to knock Team GB's Declan Brooks out of the medals?

NO! It's guaranteed bronze for Brooks! And let's not forget Charlotte Worthington took the gold in the women's event about an hour ago!

That just leaves Australia's Logan Martin and he has already claimed gold with his first run. He slips a pedal in his celebratory second run but it matters not.
