Brooks drops to bronzepublished at 04:08 British Summer Time 1 August 2021

    Men's BMX freestyle final

Daniel Dhers of Venezuela is 36 years of age, he was thinking of retiring four years ago.

But here he is in Tokyo, nailing a suicide 720, a front flip, a no-handed flare, among many other tricks and the judges absolutely loved that run.

It's 92.05, which means Team GB's Declan Brooks drops to bronze with two riders to go... although one of them is already leading.

One person we won't be seeing in action today is Simone Biles. She has pulled out of the vault and uneven bars gymnastics finals.

The four-time Olympic champion, 24, withdrew from Tuesday's women's team final as well as Thursday's individual all-around final saying she had to focus on her mental health.

And it seems that now extends to Monday's floor final.

Brooks still in silverpublished at 04:02 British Summer Time 1 August 2021

    Men's BMX freestyle final

The nervous wait goes on for Declan Brooks. The Brit has 90.80 in the bag and is in silver with four riders to go.

Russia Olympic Committee's Irek Rizaev has just gone and put down what looked like a sensational run but the judges deemed it only good enough for fifth

Anthony Jeanjean is up next. He had a 78 in the first run, so needs a big improvement to challenge the medals. No! The Frenchman takes a tumble midway through his run.

We're almost in guaranteed medal situation here folks.

Brooks in silver with six to gopublished at 03:55 British Summer Time 1 August 2021

    Men's BMX freestyle final

New Olympic champion Charlotte Worthington has her fingers crossed for Declan Brooks as he waits for his score after another superb run in the men's BMX freestyle final.

Zero mistakes in a run that featured flips and spins and the judges give him 90.80. That's enough to consolidate second place.

He's got quite a wait to see if that will be enough to claim a medal with half a dozen riders still to go.

"A wonderful silver medal for Team GB - what a way to finish the Olympic Games - their most successful games in the pool.

"They did all they could but just couldn't quite get to the Americans."

Caeleb Dressel is celebrating more after winning this than I've seen him do in the individual events.

The USA had to break the world record there just to hold off GB with Italy picking up the bronze.

Declan Brooks is in third place after the first run of the men's BMX freestyle final.

Freestyler Duncan Scott could also become the first British athlete to win four medals at a singles Games here.

Meanwhile, the USA’s Caeleb Dressel could join the great Michael Phelps as one of two athletes to win five golds at the same Games since 1992.

The USA are the world and Olympic champions, and have won every gold ever in this event – other than in 1980 when they boycotted the Games in Moscow.
