First, Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou prevailed with his last jump of 8.41m.

That leap tied him with Juan Miguel Echevarria, but Tentoglou took gold by virtue of his second-best jump on the day being longer than that of his Cuban rival.

GB's Kerr through but agony for Lewispublished at 04:39 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

    Women's K1 200m quarter-finals

One through, one out. Mixed emotions for British pair Deborah Kerr and Emily Lewis.

Kerr, a 23-year-old from Motherwell, came through strongly in the final 50m to win the quarter-final in 42.742 seconds and book her spot in the semi-finals.

But there was agony for Lewis. The 28-year-old from Worcester finished third and missed out by 0.005 seconds. Canada's Michelle Russell edged in front at the death.

Kerr, who will compete in the semi-finals tomorrow, consoled her team-mate afterwards.

GB boats in hunt for medalspublished at 04:36 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

There are two medal races morning and British crews have chances to win medals in both.

First up at 06:33 BST is the Women’s 49er FX medal race.

Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey, the 2020 world silver medallists, won the opening two races but are fifth going into today's race and re eight points off bronze.

Dobson is set to marry GB team-mate and fellow sailor Dylan Fletcher straight after the Games.

Fletcher and Stuart Bithell are second going into their 49er finale on Monday, four points adrift of defending champions and two-time Americas Cup winners Peter Burling and Blair Tuke of New Zealand.

They are also level on points with Spain’s Diego Botin and Iago Lopez and are a healthy 10 points clear of bronze.

Belarus sprinter 'feels safe and secure'published at 04:05 British Summer Time 2 August 2021

    Alex Capstick
    BBC Sport

Belarusian sprinter Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who criticised her coaches and then voiced fears for her safety on Sunday after refusing an order to fly home, stayed in an airport hotel overnight after she had asked for protection.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) say she’s being looked after by the Japanese authorities with the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, also involved.

The IOC is talking to her this morning to find out what she wants and to support her and say she told them she feels safe and secure.

The Belarus National Olympic Committee have been asked for a full written report.

Leading officials of the Belarus NOC are banned from the Games, a decision taken late last year. They include the president of the NOC, Viktor Lukashenko, the son of the country’s president.

The decision was taken following allegations the NOC was failing to protect athletes who protested against the government.

    Women’s K1 200m quarter-finals

This event - a head-to-head race along an open stretch of water - has been a one-woman show for the past decade.

New Zealand's Lisa Carrington is going for an Olympic three-peat and has not been beaten over 200m since 2011. A whole decade of dominance! Her supremacy was recently compared by Time magazine to that of Simone Biles.

Unsurprisingly the 31-year-old eased into tomorrow's semi-finals in the heats earlier today.

Now the big question is whether any of two Britons can join her there.

Deborah Kerr and Emily Lewis did not qualify for the semi-finals, but third and fourth places respectively have put them in the quarter-finals.

Both are in the third quarter-final at 04:15 BST. Top two through, the rest will be booking flights home.
