While the women's long jump final continues, on the track it's time for the men's 200m heats.

GB's Adam Gemili and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake are among those aiming for a semi-final spot.

And her opening attempt is also met by a red flag.

So, after the first round in the women's long jump final it's Ese Brume in pole position.

A long way still to go, of course.

Things starting to hot up... 6.97m for Ese Brume, she goes into first place. It's all about finding a rhythm in these early rounds and Brume has done just that.

Decent jump form Irozuru but it's a red flag. Okay, it's a foul, but that bodes well because she is a long, long way down the pit...

Up next, it's GB's Abigail Irozuru...

It's a decent enough first jump but Irozuru steps over the mark and it's not going to count..

  7. Team GB to win 16 gold medals?published at 02:57 British Summer Time 3 August 2021

    Simon Gleave
Head of sports analysis, Nielsen Gracenote

Team GB's 35 medals are now six ahead of the number our pre-Olympic Virtual Medal Table forecast had at this stage.

We have therefore adjusted our projected British medal total upwards to 58, including 16 gold medals as the number of golds is also two ahead of schedule.

At this stage, it looks like Great Britain should finish fourth on total medals, ahead of host nation Japan.

The current Gracenote forecast of 16 for Great Britain would almost certainly mean fifth place on the final medal table. Track cycling will probably be the key for this number to go higher to challenge the Russian Olympic Committee on golds.

That is really, really tough. It looked strict as well, but those are the rules and we have to be honest.

As athletes, you have to be able to stay within your lane, it's something that athletes do week in, week out. It's so unfortunate that it's happened on the biggest stage for Nicole Yeargin.

It's heart-breaking stuff, but she'll learn from this.

Mary Rand won gold almost 58 years ago at the 1964 Games.

Since then, Sheila Sherwood's silver (Mexico, 1968) and Sue Hearnshaw's bronze (Los Angeles, 1984) are Britain's only other medallists in the event.

Irozuru, 31, was not selected for London 2012 and retired after she missed Rio in 2016 due to a ruptured Achilles.

She may have to go well beyond her current PB of 6.86m to get a medal in this..

    Women's long jump final

Jazmin Sawyers finished 11th in qualifying and reckons she will improve today.

She is certainly a lady of many talents, having won a Winter Youth Olympics silver in bobsleigh and competed on the television singing competition The Voice.

The Commonwealth (2014) and European (2016) silver medallist will have to go some to get a medal here but she has been edging closer to the magical seven-metre mark and Shara Proctor’s British record of 7.07m, this season.

One of those would do nicely...followed by a tune.
