  3. How have Team GB fared?published at 08:51 British Summer Time 8 August 2021

With their final day returns, Team GB have matched their medal total from London 2012.

The gold medals won by Jason Kenny and Lauren Price this morning have taken GB's total haul to 65 medals, equalling their performance as hosts nine years ago and making Tokyo their second-most successful overseas Olympics after Rio 2016.

Britain won 67 medals at the Rio Games - finishing second in the medal table - and UK Sport had set a medal target range of between 45 and 70 medals in Japan.

In 2016, GB became the first country to improve on its medal tally in the Olympics after being the host. Now, they've become the first to equal or win more medals at each of the next two Games.

It's less medals but it is a better story.

I like the fact you've got mountain biking and BMX and the club in Peckham.

For me it is the richest performance they have had, even though it was not as rich as before.

Great Britain finishes in its lowest position on the medal table since Beijing 2008 when the team was also fourth. However, this is Team GB's second best performance at an overseas Olympics, after Rio 2016.

The USA will finish top of the table, with 39 golds. China are second with 38 golds, followed by hosts Japan with 27 golds.

'Imagine being in a household with 12 gold medals'published at 08:37 British Summer Time 8 August 2021

    Chris Boardman
Olympic cycling champion on BBC TV

I've never seen a keirin like it. Jason Kenny is stubbornly and steadfastly understated. The ride was extraordinary. He spotted the gap and made the decision. There is no way back and he was totally committed. It was a great way to finish the cycling off.

It was telling that he said 'I rode every race as if it was the final one.' I think that was the right way to approach it.

He is one of the greatest Olympians ever but the juxtaposition with him as a person and the performances just don't mesh. He is a different character when the race is on.

He thought this was it. He said 'I was counting down my career in hours'. He's been more relaxed and that's helped him. But imagine being in a household where you have 12 gold medals!

Oh yeah, and did we mention 12 of those medals are gold too?

It's nine in all for Jason (seven golds, two silvers) and six for Laura (five golds, one silver).

Team GB boxing set-up is 'very inspirational'published at 08:18 British Summer Time 8 August 2021

    Nicola Adams
Two-time Olympic gold medal boxer on BBC TV

Nicola Adams spoke to Kat Downes and Sam Quek on Olympic Breakfast about the Team GB boxing set-up:

"The Team GB boxing coaching staff in Sheffield have a really good team - doctors, physios, sports psychologists, nutritionists. You stay in the training camp all week and the coaching staff get to know what you're really good at.

"You are always very inspired, There is a wall at the top of the gym with a photo of everyone who has won an Olympic medal with the last one saying 'this could be you' - it's just very inspirational to be there and everyone inspires you to be the best."

How does it feel when Lauren Price says you were her inspiration?

"That's what I said when I won my gold medal - I wanted to inspire the next generation. I am so happy."

On names to look out for in the future...

"Caroline Dubois was a bit unlucky but next time a bit more experience will help her."

And on the rule change allowing professionals to go back to amateur status - an Adams comeback on the cards?

"I prefer being here just sitting and watching. It's a lot of hard work and training that goes into it - you are training three times a day - conditioning in the morning and afternoon and boxing in the evening."

More from Lauren Price here, who was raised by her grandparents. Sadly, her grandfather passed away last year:

"This is for him and my nan. I know he was looking down on me today and all week really.

"I can’t really put it into words what they’ve done for me over the years and obviously I just love them both so much.

"I can’t wait to go back and see my nan, see everyone and show my medal off."

Lauren Price spoke to BBC Sport after her gold medal-winning performance in the women's middleweight final.

"I can’t really put it in to words. It’s a dream come true," she said.

"It goes to show years of hard work - if you dream and work hard enough you can achieve anything.

"Thanks to everyone who supported me from starting off at eight years old and a big shout-out to everyone who has supported me. Looks like we're getting a gold post-box outside my house!"

She's a phenomenal all-round athlete - the likes of which we've never seen before.

A four-time kickboxing world champion, international footballer and now an Olympic boxing champion.

But Lauren Price is also one of the most humble people you could meet. Devoted to her nan and grandad who raised from when she was three days old.

Her grandad Derek died in November. He never got to see his granddaughter at the Olympics.

But he'll be looking down on her proudly today.

'That is total domination'published at 08:05 British Summer Time 8 August 2021

    Women's middleweight final

    Steve Bunce
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

What a tournament it has been, Lauren Price, we will look back on this in three years and we might forget how difficult it was for her.

Don't forget she was put up as the poster-woman not just for boxing but for the Olympics. She was in all of the ad campaigns.

Great backstory, she was taken in by her grandparents when she was just three days old and it got harder before it got better.

All those years going on the road, boxing in the Commonwealth championships and coming up short. Being beaten in European games and Worlds.

Clawing her way up slowly, to being in the top 10 and finally in this Olympic cycle the last two or three years becoming the world champion, European champion, European Olympic qualifying champion and now the Olympic champion - that is total domination.
