It was amazing, just for her [Georgia Taylor-Brown] to keep her composure with that puncture she had. It was just a heart in mouth moment and the camera panned back.

We didn't know whether she could change her wheel, but the effort she put in was phenomenal and I cannot believe she held it together. The sign of a true champion.

'An amazing race'published at 09:30 British Summer Time 27 July 2021

    Allison Curbishley
Athletics expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Former British athlete Allison Curbishley on Georgia Taylor-Brown's silver medal race in the triathlon:

    It was an amazing race!

It was a ferocious swim, the storm hit Tokyo about six hours before and the race itself was delayed by 15 minutes.

It was a very different Tokyo bay they were swimming in but she was phenomenal from the start.

She had a rear puncture and she decided not to stop and change the wheel - carried on and rode it flat which lost her about 22 seconds.

But she's such a strong runner - she'd been on crutches due to a stress fracture in recent weeks!

Broady on serve in secondpublished at 09:30 British Summer Time 27 July 2021

    *Broady 7-5 3-4 Hurkacz

Liam Broady is acquitting himself very, very well against a player ranked 131 places above him.

Broady said before the Games that he did not want people to "look at me and think I'm making up the numbers" after he was called up late to the GB squad.

With Dan Evans and Johanna Konta both missing out after contracting coronavirus, Broady was offered a place based on his ranking.

After battling back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to clinch it in just under an hour, he's on serve and looking untroubled in the second.

    Women's individual

Great Britain's Bryony Pitman, who won two matches in the women's individual today: "It is a mental sport - you have to be able to control your shot when you are dealing with so much adrenaline;you're shaking, and it's a sport with such fine margins between hitting a 10 and hitting a six.

"For me, it's one of the biggest things. My dad is my coach, and he has always said to me; ‘If you're not enjoying it, why are you there?

"You want to be there, so have fun’. I do find that in itself, it helps me to relax a lot more."

    Women's triathlon

    BBC Radio 5 Live

BBC Radio 5live spoke to Triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown about how it feels to be a silver medallist at the Olympics:

"I think I'm still full of adrenaline right now, I'm riding this wave but I'm definitely enjoying it!

"We can always rely on Jess (Learmonth) for a fast and aggressive swim and that's what made the race today to be honest. I wouldn't have this medal around my neck without Jess because she really broke the race up and kept it driving at the front. I owe a lot to her.

"I had about 2k to go on the bike when I got the puncture, luckily it was a section where there was a long drag so I could just about handle it. I just had to stay upright and I only lost 22 seconds on the grid. I definitely wanted to be able to finish the race.

"I went very hard on the run because I could still see the girls ahead of me and I just wanted to get back into the group where I should have been so I did run. I just wanted to be close to them again, I didn't think I was going to end up with a silver medal!"

Andy Murray, who won his men's doubles match with Joe Salisbury a little earlier, has been speaking about the minor thigh strain that led him to withdraw from the singles.

"When we spoke about playing, I told Joe that if I had any physical issues I'd prioritise doubles over singles and that's why I made the decision," Murray said.

"I'd have been annoyed with myself if I'd decided to play with the issue, made it worse, lost my singles and not been able to perform well in the doubles.

"Physically it'll be OK for the rest of the tournament, but I will need to take a break afterwards."
