Here goes Ryan Hall! England's powerhouse winger tears a huge hole in the Australia line before finding Daryl Clark in support. Massive chance, huge break. Clark can't offload when he really should but wins a penalty. He is dragged into touch by Greg Inglis. It is back-slaps all round from the Aussies - but Inglis is pinged for dragging Clark after the ref called held. Advantage England...

Former Super League and Australian NRL coach on BBC Two

"England have two major weapons. Daryl Clark's speed and Chris Hill's footwork is causing Australia a lot of problems and something they need to keep hammering on at."

    Richard Mathers
Former England full-back on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Steve McNamara's last message to Daryl Clark must have been - any opportunity, any half play-the-ball, you run, it is up to the rest of the team to catch up with play. Clark is just so dangerous. He has the X-factor."

Australia struggled under the high bomb against the Kiwis when Greg Inglis went off with man flu last week. But the Aussie full-back has been comfortable with everything booted his way in the opening 25 minutes. He collects another Gareth Widdop kick before some more poor discipline from England as they are caught offside.

Back come the Aussies. Cameron Smith scoots from dummy half, big prop Josh Papalii crashes into a wall of red and white, before some nifty English hands - behind their posts - see out the last tackle and avoid a drop-out. Now they try to pin back the Aussies in the own half...

Cooper Cronk boots another high kick upfield - straight down the gullet of England winger Josh Charnley. The sun is shining now in Melbourne. But Charnley isn't dazzled by the rays as he starts another England set.

"Where did they get that ball from? A poor kick. Australia come up hard on the outside, brought the ball inside and Greg Bird's speed got to England. At this level you have to be so clinical and England need to be more positive at the end of their kicks."

Australia make an incision down the left, Daly Cherry-Evans and Greg Bird punching a hole in the English defence. Centre Michael Jennings finishes off the move - after the video referee checks that he grounded the ball correctly. He did.

Somehow Cameron Smith fails to add the extras, dragging his kick wide of the sticks.

Ah. It was all so comfortable for England....

Another handling error from the Aussies inside the England 20-metre line. Greg Inglis is the culprit this time. All comfortable for the English defence so far.

"Sean O'Loughlin has fitted in in so well with the England team already. He really is a world class player.

"It is a really sparring battle at the moment. Australia haven't had the ball inside the 20 metre mark as much as England have. Both sides are comfortable in defence though."

"A poor end to a really good set. England needed to thread the needle with the kick there."

There are more people on report than there are in a particularly naughty secondary class now. Australia second rower Greg Bird is the latest to be reprimanded after illegally dumping England skipper Sean O'Loughlin into the turf.

England blow their opportunity from the next set though, a poor kick on the last tackle handing back the ball to the Aussies. Absorbing stuff so far.

Australia pound the England line, but their defence remains firm. And the Aussies spill the ball to let Steve McNamara's men off the hook.

"Liam Farrell will be penalised for a 'chicken wing' tackle. If you look at NRL rules, he will definitely be suspended for a week. He worked the arm of Greg Inglis, you are not allowed to do that."

England second rower Liam Farrell is placed on report after pinning back the arm of Australia's Greg Inglis in the tackle - known as a 'chicken wing'. Then, his skipper Sean O'Loughlin follows him for what looked like an accidental trip on Kangaroos skipper Cameron Smith.

England are camped inside the Aussie 20-metre line, but every push forward is stopped by a wall of maroon and sky blue. Gareth Widdop's grubber on the last tackle is easily swallowed up by Australia full-back Greg Inglis and the ball is handed back.
