  4. Finn expects a tight gamepublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 15 June 2017

    Salford v Wakefield (20:00 BST)

Wakefield stand-off Liam Finn on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"It's a big game and there is a big prize at the end of it - a place in the last four of an exciting competition.

"The win here earlier this month makes it harder tonight. Salford will be smarting from that defeat.

"It was a game that could have gone either way. There has not been a lot between the sides this season and I'm sure it will be a similar game tonight."

    Salford v Wakefield (20:00 BST)

Salford have just given the fans at the ground a treat with Lizzie Jones, the wife of the late Danny Jones, singing Jerusalem and Abide With Me.

She wowed at Wembley the past two years, and her work to raise money for defibrilators within rugby league is to be admired.

    Marvellous stuff.

There was a time in the early 1960s where Wakefield Trinity were one of the big-hitters in English rugby league.

Stars such as Derek 'Rocky' Turner, Neil Fox, Alan Skene and Harold Poynton (above) all wore the red, white and blue of Trinity, all took the Dreadnoughts to Wembley and were international class.

Three Wembley successes between 1960 and 1963 were testament to the brilliance of those players, and a remarkable period of success for the club.

Only two further appearances in the final, defeats in 1968 - the famous watersplash final against Leeds - and 1979, have occurred since.

Salford's 'Red Devils' moniker comes from a visit to France in 1934 where the red-shirted men from the Willows were described as such in the match programme.

Members of that team would eventually go on to win the club's sole Challenge Cup against Barrow in 1938, guided by Welsh union convert Gus Risman - his first of two successes.

Risman was eventually immortalised for his contribution to the competition's history with both Salford and Workington by a place on the Wembley Challenge Cup statue which is situated outside the north side of the ground.

All four Challenge Cup ties were given the Super League Show preview treatment by four-time winner Jamie Peacock and Castleford skipper Michael Shenton.

Shenton of course should be in action on Sunday when Hull are the hosts.

And of course, you can follow all the games here across TV, radio and online on BBC Sport.

Wakefield's Mason Caton-Brown's great try against St Helens

Playing on the outside of a dominant pack and skillful halves, Wakefield's double-barred wing duo of Ben Jones-Bishop and Mason Caton-Brown are a key source of tries.

Whether it's chewing up the metres from deep or taking to air at the corner, these two know how to get that ball down where it matters.

Sadly there's no Jones-Bishop tonight but centre Reece Lyne is no slouch, and Bill Tupou can go himself.

Their battle with Salford's own widemen Greg Johnson - another sprint merchant - and Jake Bibby will be one to watch.

    Salford v Wakefield (20:00 BST)

Ewan McColl's folk ditty 'Dirty Old Town', about the city of Salford, evokes images of a grubby, industrial place.

Far from the shiny, bright appeal of the rugby league team that proudly (at least for now...) bares its name.

The Red Devils are second in the Super League, second in number of tries scored (82 in the league by the way) and only Leeds hooker Matt Parcell has scored more tries for a forward this season than the bulldozing Ben Murdoch-Masila.

  12. 'Two sides who have been over-achieving'published at 19:45 British Summer Time 15 June 2017

    Salford v Wakefield (20:00 BST)

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Who would have thought at the start of the season that this game would be featuring two sides at the top of Super League?

Salford are firmly in that top four and Wakefield are pushing for it. Both these teams have a huge opportunity to make the Challenge Cup semi-final.

They've both done well this season in terms of effort but they've also made the fewest errors in Super League and that's an incredible achievement.

They are two sides who have been over-achieving in Super League but have really put some fantastic performances together and are within touching distance of Wembley.

We only need to go back 11 days to recall the last time these two sides met, and they served up an absolute gem.

Wakefield winger Mason Caton-Brown scored a hat-trick against his old team to help Trinity to two big points after a ding-dong battle.

Why not relive it to whet the appetite with BBC Sport's report?

Not too many changes for Wakefield coach Chris Chester, from the narrow 18-16 derby defeat by Leeds last weekend.

Bill Tupou comes onto the wing to cover for Ben Jones-Bishop with Reece Lyne (above) brought back into the side.

Adam Walker replaces Mitch Allgood in the pack, while on the bench Jordan Crowther and Craig Huby step in for James Batchelor and David Fifita.

Wakefield: Grix; Tupou, Lyne, Arundel, Caton-Brown; Williams, Finn; England, Wood, A.Walker, Hadley, Ashurst, Sio

    Replacements: Crowther, Annakin, Hirst, Huby

Bit of a surprise in the line-ups for the hosts...

Salford's talismanic full-back Gareth O'Brien is left out in favour of Greg Johnson, with Niall Evalds getting a run out in his favoured number one jersey.

Hooker Logan Tomkins returns to the side, with versatile forward Olsi Krasniqi making way, while also in the pack Mark Flanagan replaces James Hasson.

Salford: Evalds; Bibby, Welham, Sa'u, Johnson; Lui, Dobson; Tasi, Tomkins, Kopczak, Murdoch-Masila, Lannon, Flanagan.

Replacements: Griffin, Brining, T. Carney, Hauraki

Big night of rugby league ahead for these two teams, on the back of excellent seasons so far.

Eight teams remain in the quest to lift the 2017 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup, and two clubs trying to live up to illustrious pasts will slug it out for a place in the semi-finals tonight.

Salford Red Devils have been revitalised under Ian Watson's charge, playing their way into Super League's top four and have genuine hopes of ending a 48-year Wembley absence in 2017.

Not since the days of David Topliss have Wakefield been such a Challenge Cup prospect, having reached the semi-finals under Chris Chester last season and are within 80 minutes of repeating that feat.

Both like to play, both have powerful packs and X-factor backs... it promises to be a corker.

Welcome to BBC Sport's live text and radio coverage of Salford v Wakefield in the first of four Challenge Cup quarter-final ties.
