Is that the shift Salford needed? Both teams have been trying to establish field position and this is the first time Salford have got ground in Wigan's half.

Dean Moffatt: Although I probably agree with no try, it's NOT conclusive evidence against the Burgess try, Vid ref even said so!

Kevin Jones: Imagine the surrounding of the ref in football if a decision was overturned like that. Spot on by the video ref.

Rain tumbling down. That will crank the error count. It also favours big forward looking to put their shoulders into midriffs.

There is nothing more frustrating for a side chasing the game to watch a kick fizz over their heads and dribble out into touch for a scrum.

Ninety metres and 13 angry so-and-sos standing between you and a score. Agonising.

That's just what Todd Carney and Michael Dobson are delivering at the moment. Sean O'Loughlin - who's been uncharacteristically quiet - coughs up the ball in contact and Salford have a well-placed scrum.

So close by Wigan. They tested Salford out on their right edge, with the Warriors left edge attack looking sharp but they limited the space for Oliver Gildart who knocked on.

Both defences have fixed up well. Only genuine quality will get you points right now.

There have been some really good moments from Wigan so far. Salford's wingers dropped off the end of the line in anticipation of the kick, but Tomkins spotted their movements and played to create space instead.

Brilliant pressure to follow up an equally fine kick by George Williams, that forces a goalline drop out.

Is the Salford defence to hold out?

There's still plenty of time to go but Wigan are already throwing some spectacular stuff at Salford - adventure unchecked by the pressure of a semi-final.

Twinkle-toes stuff by Anthony Gelling down the right eventually comes to an end with the centre in touch. Junior Sa'u shut down the space brilliantly.

That would have been a try worthy of the old 101 Great Rugby League Tries VHS (a BBC video classic) from Joe Burgess but it was ably thwarted by Niall Evalds.

The break by Sam Tomkins was trademark stuff from the England full-back. Something I hope we see to devastating effect at the World Cup this autumn.

Joe Burgess is denied! What a try-saving challenge by Niall Evalds!

Ball forced out as it looked like the winger was away. Pace to burn from the Salford full-back to deny the Wigan winger.

Wigan back to their full complement after Sam Tomkins' sin-binning and his first task of the second half is to pluck a high bomb out of the air.

Salford's defensive mettle is going to be key, they must cope with the pressure of defending a lead. Niall Evalds did just that to shut down a last tackle Wigan kick. No let up in the pace yet.

    Forty massive minutes to go.

Wigan, 19-times Challenge Cup winners, are behind at the break. Salford in front by two precious points.

James Child blows the whistle and Salford are getting first touch of the ball. Here we go.

Todd Carney and Michael Dobson wanted the ball in hand, and kept possession off Wigan. If you surrender possession cheaply against good teams, you might never see it again. That's what happened to Wigan.

I thought we saw the best and worst of Salford. When they had the ball in hand, they really tested Wigan. But when Wigan played the ball quickly, they really stretched and challenged Salford.

Stuart Court: Intriguing first half. Wigan looked like they were running away with it, but lack of discipline letting Salford back in.

Wayne Halstead: Salford in front now, their halves becoming more influential. Another great Challenge Cup tie.

Greg Johnson had only just crossed himself when he returned the kick-off with a stunning break through the Wigan line.

Wigan recovered to shut down that play but could do nothing about another super kick into the in-goal, tracked to perfection on debut by Tyrone McCarthy.

We've already seen how Wigan got themselves in front in this game, and we knew it was going to take something special from Salford to break them down.

That's just what they did. Here is how the comeback started - Greg Johnson going over in the corner...

Phew. We thought Saturday's semi-final was good but Lancashire have come up trumps this afternoon with this riproaring Red Rose special.

Wigan ripped out of the blocks and had two tries to show for it from Oliver Gildart and Willie Isa. Salford looked goosed but found their rhythm.

Suddenly back-to-back tries from Greg Johnson and Tyrone McCarthy had the game in the Red Devils favour.

It's a high-octane, high quality slugfest. Long may it continue.
