Billy Slater knocks on in front of his own line! ENGLAND HAVE A SCRUM HEAD AND FEED.

This is the opportunity. Time for heroes. Slater was trying to get that on the full in-goal to seal a restart and messed it up royally!

That kick from Cameron Smith at the end really did relieve the pressure on England, whose goal-line defence was outstanding.

Not quite such a blizzard of options from Australia but they do look dangerous every time they get within 10.

Last tackle kick dribbles out eventually from Cameron Smith to lift the pressure on England.

    Heart rate starting to quicken...

Hospital pass and a half from Jonny Lomax to Jermaine McGillvary who does well to claw it in but then knocks on in contact from Wade Graham's tackle.

Australia get the initiative again. 20 out from the England posts.

One score might just kill it off.

Josh Dugan has re-emerged from the tunnel after his injury concerns. Ominous for England because he's a big bloke who can shift with it from the centres.

England and Ryan Hall go wreaking havoc with a steaming run... Chris Hill picking up the baton.

Better from England. Wasteful kick in the end from Gareth Widdop. Shame.

Danny: Much better 2nd half now we’ve started throwing the ball out wide. Look a lot more dangerous

Up to the hour, water being greedily taken on board by both teams, who have perspiration glistening on their foreheads.

What England need is inspiration to go with their unrelenting effort. Gareth Widdop's influence could bring that, so could Josh Hodgson who's back on.

Suffocating, is how Australia are making it for England in terms of defence.

In terms of the metres being made in the second half England are working overtime, massive kicks like that one just from Gareth Widdop will help change their fortunes.

Australia had to work that one out from their own in-goal. 52% possession now, England narrowing the gap. Can they find that crucial score?

There was a scruffy end to the last Aussie set - I'm looking at a couple of the green and gold and I think a few of them are blowing a little bit.

There are a lot of good things happening for England here. It is very encouraging.

Cooper Cronk knocks on, on the last, to give England a turnover 20 metres out.

James Graham and Elliott Whitehead are on their knees, as Eddie Waring would say 'It's a killing pace'.

England get Jonny Lomax streaking away into space. Then Gareth Widdop bounces off a tackle, Ryan Hall knocks a Luke Gale kick back but John Bateman is snared.

He gives Cooper Cronk a stray flappy hand in frustration. Temper, temper!

England had numbers on and just needed a little composure there - they had three to one Australian.

Aaron Woods shows his subtle side, having come back on as part of a triple Kangeroos change, to slip Jake Trbojevic through the gap.

England back within the 10, back in position. Chris Hill held up under the uprights.

Then the ball is whizzed left, an offload by Luke Gale... Jonny Lomax can't draw it in. SO CLOSE!

Sam Burgess meanwhile is showered and changed. We won't be seeing him again today.

Australia ALMOST looked ruffled as a skittering, bobbling kick went in behind their defence but as England loomed dangerously, Cameron Smith popped up a little dab to Billy Slater who cleared the lines.

England making some better ground from their carries, Australia possibly feeling the pace now finally.

James Roby dashes forward, James Graham on.

England force a drop out as Dane Gagai is pushed back in goal and tackled. Excellent response!

    Australia 10-4 England

A kick is only as good as the chase, the old rugby league adage says, and that is where Australia are truly at their best in terms of turning the ball over.

England's kicks are being taken in with space ahead. Australia are swarming every time their high balls go up and it's limiting field position.

Renewed purpose about England, after licking their wounds at the break, they've broken the cycle of feeling sorry for themselves...

There's some excitement from Wayne Bennett's side as they push a bit of shape on Australia, going wide with McGillvary who then careers his way through the middle.

Unfortunately the play comes to an end with Ryan Hall's loose dump-off to John Bateman. The Kangaroos bounce back into attack again.
