The exciting thing is the way England players got into their roles.

    They preserved the space.

I really like this O'Loughlin, Widdop, Gale, Brown partnership. I really like it.

  2. Ratchford gets another for Englandpublished at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

Warrington's Stefan Ratchford scored England's second try after the winger collected the ball out wide.

It seems like a long time ago - in reality about 20 minutes.

I like the shape of this England side. When they go out of the back they look like the could cause any team problems.

  4. try

TRY - England 22-0 Francepublished at 23 mins

    Mark Percival (23 mins)

England go left, and as John Bateman looks to kick on the last tackle it hits a French foot and rebounds into Stefan Ratchford's hands.

That gives England another six to find a gap, and there are plenty of runners to the right as it's moved swiftly through half-backs Luke Gale and Kevin Brown.

Gareth Widdop joins the line to gather at speed and feeds Mark Percival, who saunters over.

    Slick.

Widdop is getting some clean ball, and in space too. He's loving it out there at the moment.

    England 18-0 France

A bit of pressure building from France, but Ben Currie and Luke Gale combine to get up quickly and force the French to spill.

Quick hands from England, as they move it through Chris Hill and James Roby on the half way.

It looked like England had men over on the left with Gareth Widdop eating up the metres, but some scrambling defence from France shuts that off.

  7. Gareth Widdop scores England's first trypublished at 10:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

It was a blitz of a start from England, who scored three tries in the first eight minutes.

This is the first - with just two minutes on the clock.

    England 18-0 France

Well, France start a set 30 metres from the England line - their most advanced position so far.

Can they make it count? No. It's dropped under very little pressure, but they get a repeat set as England don't move away quick enough - that's the ill-discipline Wayne Bennett was talking about.

A first test for England's defence, but one they pass and keep the French out.

Yep, if there was ever any doubt, it is now looking like a certainty that England will play PNG in their quarter-final.

Nick Piakal: England is too clinical in their performance. 18 nil over France within only 8 minutes into the game. @PNGKumulsRL, external wins have all been littered with errors. Not enough set plays being completed. We need to do better if we are to beat England.

This formation, with Kevin Brown in the team, takes the pressure off Sean O'Loughlin. Up until now we have been relying on him to square everything up.

    England 18-0 France

France have survived seven minutes without conceding a try - they shipped three in the first eight.

England have players queuing up to take the ball in hand whenever James Roby collects from the play the ball, and on the final tackle Luke Gale looks for the corner with a huge boot.

    He finds it. Inch perfect.

  12. 'England spreading the workload'published at 10:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    England 18-0 France

    Ian Millward
Former St Helens coach on BBC Two

We've been really critical of England's attack all going down the right-hand side.

All of these early breaks have come down the left. They're spreading the workload.

Or are England just playing very well?

Rich Lord: England three tries up after 8 minutes? It just shows this tournament is a farce. The game isn’t big enough for a World Cup, even with just 14 teams.

France need to find some composure in defence, but they are pinned close to their own line again with another deep kick that Fouad Yaha takes on his way to the ground.

The French complete a set, and Lucas Albert nearly finds a 40-20. That's better.

That can certainly go down as a full England try. We know we can play with the ball in this country. Superb play from the whole team. Teased France from start to finish.

I loved the way they went down the left.

The pass from Widdop was world-class.

The six, the seven, the full-back and the nine were all working together off the ball. It was delightful to watch.

  18. converted try

CONVERTED TRY - England 18-0 Francepublished at 8 mins

    James Graham (8 mins)

This could be a cricket score!

England look like scoring with every attack. Jermaine McGillvary almost found a route through on the right.

The Huddersfield man was held up, but England were backing the winger up and they moved it left before James Graham crashed on to a ball from 10 metres out to power over.

Three from three from the conversion for Gareth Widdop.
