It is a great day to play rugby league and it has been quite brutal with the weather in Perth over the last few days.

The guys are looking forward to playing and appreciate the support from everyone for the team.

Training has been full-on, we have had to do a lot travelling. After playing Australia, you have an emotional dip, but the players were zipping along this week.

Sam Burgess and Jonny Lomax will be there or there abouts for the quarter-final. They will be pushing to play, you do not get many chances to play in a World Cup quarters.

We need a Rugby League 6 Nations. Let’s get behind our nation clubs and get league the UK wide exposure it deserves. It would give all of the teams more time to play together and get but also allow the more inexperienced clubs gain experience and create an exciting competition in years to come

    England v France (10:00 GMT)

On the opposite wing to Stefan Ratchford, England have Jermaine McGillvary starting today.

The Huddersfield Giant man has been in great form so far, scoring in both games, but was placed on a biting charge after an incident with Lebanon's Robbie Farah last weekend.

His case was heard on Wednesday and he was found non-guilty.

"I think all the boys were pumped just for Jerry," said skipper Sean O'Loughlin. "He was obviously worried where things were.

"To get him back and him involved in the tournament is great for him and the boys all around him as well."

  4. Currie overcomes adversitypublished at 09:56 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Two

Adversity at the start of your career can be really beneficial.

Injuries are a big part of that. For a young athlete to overcome it shows a lot about Ben Currie.

Sometimes you need to have your appetite tested.

Ben Currie tore his anterior cruciate ligament in September last year, but the 23-year-old recovered in time to find form and make Wayne Bennett's squad, and word is the Australian was using a World Cup place as an incentive for the second-rower to get fit...

Ex-Great Britain coach on BBC Two

It is a happy group and Wayne Bennett knows his 17 players for next week against Papua New Guinea. It is important for fringe players to get a run but it is about fluidity.

The first 20 minutes, France will give England a challenge. They need to look after the ball and be patient. England will win today, but I want to see how they can do in attack.

  7. 'Brown could be the answer'published at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    England v France (10:00 GMT)

    Ian Millward
Former St Helens coach on BBC Two

Kevin Brown's form wasn't great for Warrington this year, but I think he could make a real statement here today.

We talk about England lacking rhythm in attack, but he is one of their best attacking players.

    He could be the answer.

  8. Brown 'buzzing' for chancepublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

Kevin Brown is one of the England players to get a chance against France, with the Warrington stand-off set to win his seventh cap at the age of 33.

"I can't wait," said Brown. "It's been a couple of weeks since I've had a game so I'm excited.

"It's the pinnacle of my career playing for my country, so whatever chance I get to play in a Test I'm buzzing.

"To play in a World Cup it makes it that extra bit special."

  9. 'Impact of changes negligible'published at 09:50 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Two

If we start badly next week, we'll look back on this and say "Wayne messed things around". If we start well next week, we'll say, "Well done, Wayne, for freshening things up".

I think the impact is negligible, either way.

The continuity will be built in training.

  11. Widdop not the answer at full-backpublished at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    England v France (10:00 GMT)

    Jon Wilkin
Former England international on BBC Two

What England are looking for is a full-back who can contribute attacking-wise.

Widdop is accustomed to that position. He'll understand the intricacies of playing that role.

But he's got a big part to play in this tournament, and I don't think it's at full-back.

For Ratchford, he's on the tour for days like today- for his utility value.

We knew Wayne Bennett was going to rest a few players today, but his line-up is slightly surprising.

Utility back Stefan Ratchford starts on the wing, a position he himself says he "hasn't played in 10 years", while half-back Gareth Widdop finds himself at full-back.

What do we reckon to that? Let us know on #bbcrl

  13. A great advert for Super League?published at 09:42 Greenwich Mean Time 12 November 2017

    England v France (10:00 GMT)

    Kevin Sinfield
Former England and Leeds captain on BBC Two

What I am excited about is that there are only three NRL players and 14 Super League stars in the side.

Changes provide opportunities for player, you want the environment to be great. For these guys to get a chance to show what they can do is fantastic. Whether they go on to play again in the World Cup we don't know, but they have been allowed to wear the shirt.

England coach Wayne Bennett says his team for the knockout stages of the World Cup is still "open for negotiation".

The Australian wants to give all members of his 24-man squad some game time before the quarter-finals.

"It's just about giving everybody the opportunity to play," said Bennett.

"They get disheartened if they don't get that opportunity. We wanted to use them if we could and we're at a stage where we can do that."

I am looking for an improved performance. We were all disappointed watching England against Lebanon, but with the changes we have made, we will perform fantastically well today.

I just do not see France troubling us today.

If this game was in the UK or France, we normally get a 50-point victory over them.

Well, Ireland finish the World Cup with two wins from their three group games, but they miss out on the knockout stages to a Papua New Guinea side who progress with a 100% record.

Our attention turns to England now, who face France next in Perth.

Now a kick and chase for Wales!

Elliot Kear goes sprinting away, but he's cut down in full flight as he looks to reach the loose ball first. Wales penalty.

They don't have time to make it count, that's the hooter.

A good game in Perth, but both sides are going home.

Elliot Kear spills the ball 30 metres from the Ireland line and Ed Chamberlain picks up with space to gallop into.

The winger looks left and right for support, but the Ireland break is slowed as Wales scramble back.

Ireland keep it alive, it goes left to Oliver Roberts who eyes up his hat-trick, but he's stopped short.
