When the new Wembley was first put up, in 2007, it stood like a beacon, just as the old stadium towers did.

Now there is so much building work going on all around, you can approach it from the station and hardly notice it’s there.

Is it Wembley or Warrington south these days?

Today is the fifth Challenge Cup final trip to the national football stadium in 10 years. The place may end up needing a Warrington postcode!

It's the first time Steve McNamara and Steve Price take charge in a Challenge Cup Final today.

Can they cap off a Wembley debut with silverware? Well for Catalans, their recent record versus the Wire is against them.

Catalans have won just once against Warrington in their past 10 meetings.

That victory was an opening-weekend win last season when Richie Myler, Greg Bird and Brayden Wiliame crossed for the French side.

By a quirk of fate, less than a week after Warrington and Catalans booked their places in the Challenge Cup final the two teams met in the opening round of the Super 8s.

It was billed as 'dress rehearsal' for Wembley, but for the Dragons it was simply a disaster.

Two trip to the north west in such a short space of time took its toll on Catalans, with a host of Challenge Cup semi-final stars rested. For that they paid the price in a one-sided affair that ended 56-6.

While Warrington boss Steve Price didn't exactly field his strongest side, he had plenty of firepower at his disposal with Tom Lineham coming up with a hat-trick and Kevin Brown in superb form.

    Brian Noble

Catalans must replicate what they did in the semi-final. Small margins will decide this one.

We have got a great game coming up and it will be won and lost in and around that middle area.

Warrington's Sitaleki Akauola will be torn up inside today as he sees his team-mates take the field at Wembley without him.

The forward misses out through suspension after being hit with a one-game ban after being charged with dangerous contact in Wolves' 28-18 defeat by Castleford nine days ago.

Spectators out in numbers to watch their team train, 'astronomical' costs paid by fans to get to London for the match... yep, the Challenge Cup final is very much a HUGE deal to those from Perpignan, the southernmost city in mainland France.

About 5,000 fans from Northern Catalonia are expected at Wembley today and they will be wearing their club colours 'Sang et Or' - blood and gold - with fierce pride, no doubt!

  15. McNamara grateful for supportive chairmanpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 25 August 2018

    Catalans v Warrington (15:00 BST)

Steve McNamara at WembleyImage source, PA

As a former England head coach Steve McNamara knows what it is to deal with sporting pressure.

His six years at the helm of the national team has served him well this season, which started with just two wins from 11 games and plenty of speculation about his job.

"Bernard [Guasch, Catalans owner] was outstanding, it's the nature of our job - there were a lot of rumours and speculation," 46-year-old McNamara said.

"But I spoke to him face-to-face and there was 100% confidence, he knew that change was needed, he gave me the backing and support.

"He is very supportive as a chairman and that's all you want as a coach."

Catalans recovered from the poor start to finish the regular Super League campaign in the top eight and are now just 80 minutes away from an historic first piece of silverware.

Catalans Dragons v Warrington Wolves (15:00 BST)

    Jamie Peacock
Former England captain on BBC One

I think in Super League Catalans are everyone's second team. If you are not a Warrington fan then today you'll be supporting the Catalans Dragons.

I can't wait, it's an exciting day for rugby league and I think were going to see a hell of a game.

I have a feeling it's going to be Catalans' day, I think they will take the cup out of England and back to France.

Remi Casty plays in his second Challenge Cup final for Catalans and is the only player in their line-up to have featured in the defeat by St Helens in 2007.

Warrington forward Sitaleki Akauola failed with an appeal against his one-match suspension for dangerous contact but Harvey Livett returns from injury and Ben Westwood, a three-time cup winner, is also named.

Catalans Dragons: Gigot, Tierney, Mead, Wiliame, Yaha, Langi, Drinkwater, Simon, McIlorum, Moa, Jullien, Garcia, Casty.

    Interchanges: Bousquet, Baiteri, Goudemand, Edwards.

Warrington Wolves: Ratchford, Lineham, Goodwin, King, Charnley, Brown, Roberts, Hill, Clark, Cooper, Livett, Hughes, Westwood.

    Interchanges: Murdoch-Masila, King, Patton, Philbin.

Which team will win the Challenge Cup final?

    A few early predictions...

I get the sense that are a number of Catalans converts across the land.

From the north, Craig says: Dragon pour la journée! Allez Catatans! (which translates into "Dragon for the day! Come on Catatans!")

Martin adds: Challenge cup time. Good luck to both teams but gonna be Team Dracs

Tilly Button, however, is leaning the other way for this one: "Looks like a great atmosphere in Wembley right now. I’m officially wearing my Warrington Wolf colours today - only for today though. I don’t get many finals as a Bradford fan!"
