    St Helens 11-12 Warrington

Really impressive take from Toby King, slipfielder-cum-goalkeeper to swoop on Ben Barba's kick in behind. It lifts Warrington and deflates Saints, who get to within a few metres of the line but cannot prise their way through.

Kick too heavy on the corresponding set by Warrington and Saints come away from their 20 metres. 15 minutes to go.

You can almost feel every shuddering hit at the moment, as both sides go thundering at hell-for-leather pace. No slack, no let-up. It's absorbing stuff.

Saints get into the 20... threats running amok...

Ben Westwood, at the tender age of 37, is still carting the ball in with the same enthusiasm of a player 20 years his junior.

Meanwhile, we've a break in play. Ben Murdoch-Masila has soft hands and a smart pass, but once the ball had gone he was clobbered high by Mark Percival.

Just a word for the England centre, but BMM (it's quicker to type, forgive me) remains down. Hope he's ok. Ah, he's back up. Saints ball.

I tell you what. We're in for a grandstand finish here you know.

This is not done yet, mark my words.

When the teams tire, it will blow wide open.

It's a dislocated finger we understand, for Jonny Lomax.

    Ouch indeed.

How big could that be from the Flying Pig? Tom Lineham was released out on the left side on the back of a goalline drop out, and showed all his ballast and bulk to blaze Ben Barba out of the way to score!

    Sensational finish.

Tyrone Roberts this time crashed over the kick and the scoreline has been turned on its head. Warrington in front.

    Game on.

Has Tom Lineham scored?! He's been released on that left edge and slid for the line... did he make it with out going into touch?

This looks painful for Jonny Lomax. The grimace on his face is one of intense anguish. He can't look at his hand anyway.

Looks like he might have landed awkwardly when he was tackled. The medical staff are out there, taking their time to get the half-back right.

What a blow for club and country it would be if he were to have done something serious. His remedy tonight? Some tape. Warrior.

We are coming into the most exciting part of the game as we speak now.

Both of these teams are brilliant, and have powerful outside backs that can do a job.

Warrington get a relieving penalty, and it is relieving as it seems to have been relentless, unerring pressure on their line since their try.

They come into range now though, 20 out...

Kick through by Kevin Brown is chased by Tyrone Roberts and Jonny Lomax is pinned in goal. Drop out in Wire's favour now.

I just jinxed Saints then. That kick wasn't up to scratch.

They're putting the Wire through an awful lot of defensive work though at the moment. It could take its toll as the game ticks on, and the play opens up.

    Saints still lead by five.

Much more composed from St Helens now. They're stretching Warrington on both edges, then taking their time with the kick.

Ben Barba's grubber grounded in goal, and Warrington will drop out.

St Helens kick on the last, pinning down Stefan Ratchford close to the touchline.

The chase is hard and fast, forcing the England full-back over the line and out.

Saints scrum. This is a big, big chance to attack.

Danny Richardson makes it a two-score lead with the penalty.

    Cool as you like.

    Half an hour to play.

    St Helens 9-6 Warrington

Saints get a penalty in midfield and work their way to the Warrington red zone.

Quite a few pre-line passes, less inclined to take the ball into the teeth.

Mind you, Ben Barba just straightened things up again. Saints come left, Jonny Jomax goes for a chip and chase but is blocked off.

Saints penalty. Cor blimey, what a game.

    Jack Hughes

What an answer from Warrington eh? Sliding move to the right found space.

Tyrone Roberts took the ball to the line and pushed a line ball to Jack Hughes, who showed great footwork to skip on the outside of his covering defender and scorch his way to the line.

Roberts missed the conversion, scraping his effort across the sticks. Three-point ball game.

Like buses aren't they? Tries. Two come at once.

Well, that's an answer and a half.

Warrington poured forward with a move across to the right.

Then Jack Hughes blasted through to cross. Gone upstairs...

    St Helens 9-2 Warrington

Before that try, it had been white-hot, full-blooded. tight as a drum action.

Has that score blown the game open and given Saints the belief to play?

Will Warrington roar back with immediate response?

    Time will tell.

  20. try

TRY: St Helens 9-2 Warringtonpublished at 41 mins

    Luke Douglas, con Danny Richardson

Saints took full advantage of the position and when a kick was trickled through by Danny Richardson, Warrington flapped and slapped at the loose ball.

The ball squirmed tantalisingly loose in the in-goal and Luke Douglas - the Scotland prop - bounced on it to bring up the first try.

Big odds scorer too. Danny Richardson slots the kick. It's a ball-game now.
