    Salford 8-14 Wigan

Joey Lussick has the direction on a 40-20 kick but not the power, as it just holds up on the turf and allows Wigan to mop-up at the back.

Great break by Chris Hankinson who carves a big hole in the Salford line...

    Wakefield 13-14 Bradford

Wakefield are back to within a point of Bradford after Danny Brough converts Alex Walker's try.

There is less than 20 minutes remaining. Will the Super League side overcome their hungry Championship rivals to advance to the next stage of the Challenge Cup?

In the night's other fifth-round cup tie, Hunslet are finally on the board against Featherstone. Ben Heaton was the one to spot a gap in Rovers' resistance to grab the visitors' first points. With less than 10 minutes left, Rovers remain 42-6 up against the League One side.

    Salford 8-14 Wigan

Brilliant kick from Kevin Brown was drilled to the corner and when Bevan French was whispering sweet nothings to the bobbling ball in a bid to coax it to touch, it stayed in play and Salford's chase was rewarded.

Ball cleared downfield on the back of Wigan's defence and Salford have to come away from their 20.

    Niall Evalds, con Tui Lolohea

Niall Evalds shows brilliant balance and pace off the mark to whizz through to score as Wigan clocked off.

It was a position set by an excellent charge by Mark Flanagan who flicked a lovely offload out of the back of his hand, and Evalds - on the bounce - took advantage of a sliver of a gap in the line to cross.

Big score sets up a lively finish.

Halifax-born back-rower Morgan Smithies plays with all the aggression of a hungry lion, setting the platform for Wigan with a surge.

    Liam Farrell is held up...

Bevan French puts a kick in behind and hares after it... but knocks on in trying to score.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Salford falling into the trap of 'one-out' rugby. By that I mean, straight up drives without support runners. It's the type of tactic you fall into in fatigue, in desperation.

There's nothing wrong with going back to basics but you need players to back up if you're going to truly cause problems.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Turbo-charged return of the ball from Bevan French. He's rapid. Stopped eventually but it leaves Wigan on the front-foot.

French has to be one of the most exciting players in Super League right now. There are some excellent full-backs about - including his opposite number Niall Evalds - but French is up there with the best.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Rhys Williams was just about scragged back by the Wigan defence as he picked a gap and was all but through it when his polyester shirt was hauled in.

Could have been explosive. Scored a cracker for Salford against Toronto with just that kind of break from deep. Elusive pace.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Salford swung the ball deliciously out to the right and it looked like there was a chink of light in the corner for a break but Kris Welham passes the ball forward.

The minute the ball left his fingertips in a catch-and-pass motion, he placed his hands toward his head in despair.

He knew that was a chance. Cannot dwell on that.

    Wakefield 7-14 Bradford

Is there a Challenge Cup upset brewing tonight?

Rowan Milnes is certainly giving Bradford every chance. In 10 second-half minute he has converted his own try and kicked a penalty to put the Championship side 14-7 up against Wakefield.

Featherstone, meanwhile, have passed the 40-point mark against Hunslet with Dane Chisholm and Ben Blackmore both grabbing a second try each.

Into an arm-wrestle state currently. Trading sets like cautious jabs. Only difference is, Wigan are well ahead on points, and Salford need to land some shots.

Channeling a bit of Mike Costello there. Or Buncey.

    Half an hour to go.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Nice switch from Kevin Brown drops off Dan Sarginson who arrows against the grain towards centrefield having taken the pass and into the Wigan half. The kick on the last is pumped into Wigan's Liam Marshall again, but he is calm and cool under pressure in the corner.

Wigan's set ends on half-way, Jackson Hastings slams the kick up and Niall Evalds again has a ball to gather in his 10 with the hooves rumbling toward him.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

This time it's Wigan who over-complicate their play to the left side, as Jackson Hastings comes up with an errant pass that Liam Farrell cannot draw in.

Salford get a scrum and will look to break out their end of the field. Easier said than done...

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Salford work on overlaps with offloads down the left and Dan Sarginson is cut down five away.

Offloads keep the ball alive and a Wigan hand gets them another six.

However, Pauli Pauli is the player this time who seems to have the ball stripped but rather than playing to the whistle, cries penalty but gets nothing.

Really quite sloppy though, there was nothing really telling you that Salford thought they would score.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

Wigan really went for the throat in that set and Liam Farrell wasn't far away from bruising his way over. He was so close to charging in on the left edge.

Sam Powell went close on the last. Held up.

Salford survive and then get a penalty on the back of that to bring about some field position.

Seb Ikahihifo has spilled the ball in pretty much the first carry of the second half and his appeals for a strip look fairly decent shouts.

    Wigan in good ball...

Featherstone 32-0 Hunslet, Wakefield 7-8 Bradford

Featherstone start the second half just as they did the first... and that is with Jake Sweeting grabbing an early try. The Championship side now have an imposing 32-point lead against Hunslet in the Challenge Cup.

Meanwhile, the second half between Wakefield and Bradford has just kicked off.

    Salford 2-14 Wigan

James Child has tooted on the old Thunderer (or whatever brand whistle he's using these days) and we're back underway at the AJ Bell.

The siren has sounded, or hooter if you drink pints rather than schooners, and we're underway.

Wigan boot it and Salford field it.

  19. No return tonight for Bibbypublished at 20:42 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2020

    HT: Salford 2-14 Wigan

Tough return to Salford for Jake Bibby, who spent five years at the Red Devils before joining his hometown clubs this past winter.

The Wigan centre, a Grand Final tryscorer in his last appearance for the Salford club, took a stray hand from teammate Jackson Hastings in a tackle on Niall Evalds and has had to go off with an eye injury.

He won't be risked again tonight.

Just a reminder of a story that broke late last night in rugby league.

Hull FC's home humbling by Warrington last night came at a price for head coach Lee Radford, who was relieved of his duties in the aftermath of the game.

Seven years at the helm produced two Challenge Cup wins, back-to-back having finally ended the club's wait for victory at Wembley, and the revitalisation of Hull FC as a play-off contender.

However, this season's indifferent and mixed form has brought about his exit, having lost four of the opening seven games.

"He's had a fantastic seven years, one of the most hard-working head coaches I've ever come across," chief executive Adam Pearson told BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra.

"He's got honesty and integrity, and it's not a decision that gives me any pleasure at all.

"We have a big supporter base here and they need to see entertaining and winning rugby at home."
