    Catalans 18-10 Salford

Have to say Salford have ramped up on the back of that score.

Really setting above Catalans and forcing Michael McIlorum to kick from his own 30, but it was a howitzer of a boot.

Turned the winger Krisnan Inu round and bought the Dragons time on the chase.

    Catalans 18-10 Salford

Punishing sin-binning for Salford, who concede a third try while Pauli Pauli was in there.

He's back out now and it's a full complement.

How big a try is this? Michael McIlorum steps out to the shortside from a close-range ruck and catches Salford down on numbers.

He just shovels a short-ball on to Matt Whitley, hovering on the shoulder, and it's a lovely finish. Big try.

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

There was a huge gap there for James Maloney as the ball slipped to the right edge 10 away but he didn't gamble and the gap shut very quickly as Salford scrambled.

Samisoni Langi clips a low kick in behind and it's a tough one for Dan Sarginson who knocks on. But it's offside anyway and a penalty.

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

Someone needs to get in the Catalans players' ears and say - 'You don't need to win this game again'.

Essentially, if they tidy things up, defend hard, kick smart, they'll win this.

Salford still have a chance though, while it's open. And they need some composure too.

I think we've just seen two completed sets in a row.

    Pinch me.

  7. NO TRYpublished at 48 mins

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

Israel Folau's first touch was a good one, tipping the ball back but as he and the ball fell it touched his other hand and bounced forward.

    Catalans denied.

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

Israel Folau tries to tap a chip back for Lewis Tierney. He collects and grounds... Catalans think they've scored.

Video referee called for here. Did it go backwards?

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

Salford down to 12. Catalans slide to the left but Sam Tomkins puts the brakes on.

Now Catalans threaten through Josh Drinkwater... dives... just short.

Then a hand in the ruck gives the Dragons a set of six with 10 metres to the line.

It was high, it was reckless from Pauli Pauli. I don't think Salford could have argued if it was a straight red.

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

Pauli Pauli has just attempted to behead James Maloney as he slid across field. The shot strayed up bouncing off the ball and then around the head.

It sparked a few Dragons players to fly in. Once Ben Thaler calmed it all down, he sends Pauli to the sin-bin.

Silly challenge. Yes, be aggressive. But controlled.

Credit Catalans, they smothered Salford once they were into their redzone.

Salford just tried to play a bit harum-scarum. Too quick and not patient enough. No need to score, just build pressure.

Tyrone McCarthy gives away a penalty for a strip. Salford indiscipline there.

Please don't let this be the tone-setter.

Tui Lolohea spilled the restart. Catalans ball. Then a poor play-the-ball attempt by Sam Kasiano hands the ball over.

Just sloppy all over the shop. Penalty Salford in midfield for offside.

So, 40 to go. A semi-final spot up for grabs in the Challenge Cup.

Both teams have done their best to pass up the offer in that first-half.

Let's get it on. Salford lose the ball off the restart!

It was a half of two halves. Catalans dominated the first half of the half to lead 12-0. It was all Catalans and Salford had to put in tackle after tackle and had to show great defence.

But after they scored Salford started to believe and in the last seven minutes of the half it's been all Salford.

That was as strange a half of rugby league I've seen.

But it just shows, that no two-score lead, no period of dominance can truly be enough. Everyone gets a purple patch in this game and once you hook in, it can be like a whirlwind.

    Catalans 12-10 Salford

Tell you what, Catalans were hanging on for the hooter there.

Matt Whitley made a really brave tackle on a run-away Pauli Pauli in the last moments of the half... had to.

Salford head to the sheds still in the game, unthinkably after a terrible start.

Steve McNamara will be raging. Catalans had the game by the scruff of the neck and yet found themselves just two points ahead and on the rack when Ben Thaler brought the half to a close.
