Tommy Makinson goes to the bin for that challenge but, having taken the decision upstairs, no try is given.

Not sure how I stand on that, but it's testament to Catalans' early pressure on St Helens.

Now can they make their player advantage count?

I think this could be a penalty try. He's hit him right around the head.

    This is a big decision.

Joel Tomkins regains another six tackles for Catalans as they keep St Helens pegged inside their 10.

Josh Drinkwater kicks towards Fouad Yaha on the wing and, just before he can go over, he's taken out by Tommy Makinson.

That looks high and he goes in late when Yaha looked certain to go over for the Dragons.

Sione Mata'utia flies in on Tom Davies as Catalans work the ball out and the Dragons win a penalty.

They opt to kick it to touch but James Maloney fails in his efforts and St Helens deflect the ball back into play just past halfway and have a set of six for their trouble.

It is not just Catalans hoping to give France a much-needed rugby league boost this weekend.

Tomorrow, Toulouse take on Featherstone in the Championship play-off final with both sides battling to win a spot in Super League next season.

Toulouse finished top of the table on points-per-game this season having won all of their 14 games this season.

However, Featherstone are looking to cause an upset, as they knock on the door of the top flight.

St Helens probably smelt blood at 20 minutes. They probably thought they could have put this game to bed.

St Helens started really quickly and were on the front foot but Catalans did well after the opening quarter to stifle Saints' progress and niggle their way back into the game.

I think it's been real high quality. Certainly the first 20 minutes was all St Helens but Catalans found a way to stay in it.

Both coaches will be happy with how their sides performed in the first half. There's nothing in this game.

A thrilling first half. St Helens lead a frantic opening 40 minutes, but don't count out Catalans yet.

Two teams throwing everything at each other so far and a cracker of a second half must await.

St Helens have the momentum and, armed with a set of six in Catalans' half, they set about getting what could be a vital second try.

They work it wide to the talismanic Regan Grace on the wing but Dean Whare and Tom Davies have it covered with some sensational defence.

They've seen this movie before. Grace always scores on the wing. But not this time.

A pot of gold is waiting for Catalans or St Helens here.

On the pitch it is not a great spectacle at the moment, all very disjointed.

Sam Kasiano puts in a swift offload to his onrushing Catalans team-mate Joel Tomkins, who spills it before he can gain ground.

St Helens quickly get going and Kasiano puts in a high arm on Saints captain James Roby.

Play is held up but to be honest, it needn't have been, because there was nothing wrong with that. It's interrupted the flow of the game.

St Helens win a penalty after a similar challenge to Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook just now.

Tom Davies ducks out of a high tackle at the last minute, this time on Lachlan Coote as he attempts to receive a high kick.

    Nowt wrong with that.

There's some afters between Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Sam Kasiano after he attempted to go in on Sam Tomkins, who had committed to a catch from a high kick.

Fortunately LMS didn't quite catch his trailing leg that hard, because if he had, that could have been nasty.

There's some boos that go up. The referee has a word but it's play on.
