    Huddersfield 14-12 Wigan

Plenty of action in the Huddersfield half of the field now as Wigan break forward but they just can't make their attack stick.

Huddersfield are defending for their lives. 10 minutes left for either side to make sure of the win.

    It's so close.

Wigan, on the fifth tackle, gallop about the Huddersfield 20 with pass after pass before the Giants finally regain possession.

I honestly can't call this. It's end to end stuff and such a tight game.

That offload from Leroy Cudjoe, though.

    Chef's kiss. 👌

They work the outside. Leroy Cudjoe does all the work, and then it's a great finish - he's so, so strong Jermaine McGillvary.

    Jermaine McGillvary

This match, folks. Come on now. Huddersfield are back in front!

What a finish at the corner from Jermaine McGillvary. He's got plenty of strength to go over from Leroy Cudjoe's offload as Wigan keep him under pressure following the start of that set.

Tui Lolohea stands over the ball and misses once again. He's not had much luck with the boot today.

Great stuff from Huddersfield's Ricky Leutele as he works upfield and gains a lot of ground.

Morgan Smithies wrestles him to the floor with a high tackle near his neck and face and there's some afters between the two of them and boos ring around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a replay is shown.

Smithies gets away with it, somehow.

It's the tale of two halves, isn't it? Huddersfield dominated the first half and were deservedly on top at the break.

But this second half has seen Wigan look much more comfortable.

    Wow.

What a cracker of a collection from Jermaine McGillvary. This is some take as he rises above Liam Marshall as Cade Cust puts a kick into the Huddersfield in-goal area on Wigan's last tackle.

In a game as tight as this, kicks like that are crucial.

  10. Missed penalty (Giants)published at 49 mins

    Huddersfield 10-12 Wigan

Tui Lolohea draws his kick wide. On the one hand he was some distance away from the posts.

On the other, he was right in front of them, albeit from distance.

And so it remains a two-point game in Wigan's favour.

Morgan Smithies puts in a high arm on Huddersfield's Joe Greenwood.

Greenwood receives some treatment and the Giants are awarded a penalty from the 40-metre mark, for which Tui Lolohea is going for two.

Lolohea's missed four points with the boot so far, can he nail this kick?

There he is, Jai Field. You just knew he would have a say in this final.

Big questions being asked of Huddersfield now, they need to keep their composure and not fall further behind.

Contrast the two head coaches right now.

Wigan's Matty Peet looking unmoved in the stands. Huddersfield's Ian Watson unmoved stood on the touchline.

A big half awaits and that was the perfect start for Wigan.

There's no need for Ricky Leutele to come in there, and they give it to the see-you-later twins - Bevan French and Jai Field.

    Jai Field, goal Harry Smith

Hello! Welcome back to Jai Field.

From one Jay (different spelling but come on..) to another, take a bow son.

Bevan French picks up the ball on the wing and races a good 30 metres before offloading to Field who runs in with ease. In the blink of an eye, Wigan are back.

Harry Smith nails the kick and all of a sudden Wigan are in front.

Wigan Warriors get this second half going as they chase the game against Huddersfield Giants.

40 minutes remain. Are Wigan in for yet another Challenge Cup title or are Huddersfield going to end a 69-year run without lifting the trophy?

The amount of people here wearing Hawaiian shirts in what is a mixed bag of a late May afternoon is pretty interesting.

Meanwhile, here come the players. The second half's almost under way.

That's the skill of this Wigan team - they rarely get beat heavily. They find a way to be competitive. I don't think they've played that badly all season Wigan, but the defence has put them in a place where they can compete in the second half.

Huddersfield will be happy, but they're not far enough away.

Child wants to 'help educate' people and encourage respect

James Child says speaking publicly about being gay has made him more at ease as a referee, as he officiates the Challenge Cup final for the first time today.

In his 13th season as an official, 38-year-old Child has twice acted as a video referee for the showpiece final.

"I felt more relaxed," said Child.

"I get a better response from the players. Whether that comes off the back of what I said I'm not sure.

"It wasn't a weight off my shoulders because it wasn't something that burdened me, but it was nice that the message was out there.

"Other than one incident [at Bradford, who received a fine for crowd abuse], I didn't really get any trouble last year that I had had in previous years and I've had no trouble this year."

Huddersfield have stuck to their game-plan. The kicking's been great, their blitz defence has made Wigan's ball-carriers think.

There's more to come from Wigan though.
