However, there's lots more rugby league coming very soon.

In three weeks' time the World Cup will be getting under way when England face Samoa at St James' Park, Newcastle.

We'll have full coverage of the three competitions - men's, women's and wheelchair - across the BBC on TV, radio and online.

    Until then, goodbye.

  2. 'You have to be willing to taste defeat to have the good days'published at 20:27 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    FT: St Helens 24-12 Leeds

Leeds head coach Rohan Smith told BBC Radio 5 Live:

"We had a good crack, we played a bit and got close against a team who know how to play on this stage and they outplayed us today.

"We’ve got to get better, we gave ourselves a good opportunity, we gave it a crack but it’s time to reflect and learn some stuff. They were 12 points more clinical.

"There’s a lot of trust and belief in the playing group and we galvanised through some tough times.

"You’d still rather be here and cop a hard defeat than not be here at all. You’ve got to be willing to taste defeat to have the good days. It’s a great club and we’re proud of what we’ve done.”

  3. Saints 'the best team in Super League era'published at 20:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    FT: St Helens 24-12 Leeds

St Helens head coach Kristian Woolf told BBC Radio 5 live:

"It's an outstanding feeling, it's what you play for. You want to be here in these moments and feel this feeling.

"These boys play at a different intensity to the rest of the competition, and they don't get enough credit for what they do.

"They are an outstanding group and they deserve all the accolades they have got. I think it closes the debate on who is the best team in the Super League era.

"I'm not saying you can compare players and rosters but results speaks for themselves and they are the one thing you can compare."

  4. 'The boys will grow from this'published at 20:21 British Summer Time 24 September 2022

    FT: St Helens 24-12 Leeds

Leeds assistant coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan told BBC Radio 5 Live:

"We’re very disappointed but I'm really proud of what the boys have done these last few months.

"It’s just the beginning, they’ve had a sniff now. They trust each other and what Rohan Smith has brought these past few months has been outstanding.

"Adversity is a foundation of what success is built on and these boys will grow from this and understand what it takes to get here.

    "I’m really proud."

"We set our standards and it's simple but it's not easy to do. It's a special group and to do what we've done is a massive achievement.

On winning a second appeal against a two-game ban: "It wasn't the ideal prep going into a big game but I'm made up to be standing here now and being part of it.

On coach Kristian Woolf: "He's been brilliant. He's really honest and that's what you want from a coach and I'm made up we can send him off with another win."

"We were all aware of it being four in a row and there was a little added pressure because of that.

"At a club like St Helens you are expected to succeed and rightly so.

"The talk is always can you do it but we keep our game face on. It’s a feeling of relief now and I’m just enjoying the moment."

"It’s not to be today, it is what it is. They’re the best fans in the world. No matter how we’re playing they stick behind us.

"We didn’t just have the firepower. Saints were great. What a champion team we’ve got to pay credit to them.

    FT: St Helens 24-12 Leeds

    Brian Noble
Ex-Great Britain coach on BBC Radio 5 live

Thoroughly deserved. It was a brilliant performance and it had to be.

Full of energy and skill and a precision kicking game from Jonny Lomax.

But you have to have two to tango and Leeds have been manful in defeat and the style that they have played in will have won many hearts but their hearts have been broken tonight.

Credit to Leeds and their magnificent support, both of which did not give up until the very end.

St Helens, however, have made history tonight and from the very first kick of the game, they looked destined to win a record-breaking fourth consecutive Super League title.

What a job Kristian Woolf has done. Surely he will go down as one of the greatest coaches ever to grace the northern hemisphere.

Where do Saints go from here? Can they keep up this momentum or is this the end of an era?
