Ireland having to do some defending now, as Denton tries to make a hole. But he knocks on in contact and Ireland win the scrum. Scotland head coach Vern Cotter looks sterner than usual up in the stands, and you're talking about a very stern man at the best of times.

Gareth: Italy and Scotland are proving they do not deserve to be in the Six Nations. It should be Four Nations plus two minor nations.

Alan Williamson: O flower of Scotland it's wilted again.

George in England: Come on Ireland! If England don't win the Six Nations I'd prefer them to win rather than Wales.

Scotland have been pretty awful since the break, after some bright stuff in the first half. They finally get a break and Russell thumps a penalty kick deep into Ireland territory. Probably the firs time the hosts have been in Ireland's half since the restart...

The scrums are uncontested now, what with Euan Murray being off the field with a broken nose. Sexton has another chance to overhaul Wales' points difference... this time he dissects the uprights, Ireland are three points ahead of Wales on points difference...

"I think Joe Schmidt has taken the no-offload rule out of the book this week. Ireland have been given carte blanche to attack today."

Bowe goes haring down the right wing, is just caught before the line and his attempted offload is gathered by Scott, who brings it clear. Scotland living off their wits at the moment, Ireland looking rock solid favourites for the championship at the moment, despite Sexton's wee mistakes off the tee.

  8. Sin-bin, missed penaltypublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 21 March 2015

Bowe with the chip and chase but Russell is wise to it and dots down for a drop-out. Murray with a mazy run for Ireland - more suspect defence from Scotland - and it's yet another penalty for Ireland, and this time a card for Geoff Cross. Harley and Hidalgo-Clyne thrown into the fray for Scotland, Sexton pushes his kick wide again. That's pressure messing with his head.

    Gavin Hastings
Former Scotland full-back on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"You would have put your mortgage on Jonny Sexton getting that kick. You don't know how this game is going to pan out though and what effect that miss might have on Sexton.

"I'm sure Ireland are going to get to the 21-point that they need to overtake Wales, but those three points could prove costly once England are done against France."

BBC Sport's Andy Burke at Murrayfield: "There's an all too familiar feeling among the Murrayfield crowd early in this second half. The likes of Finn Russell and Stuart Hogg have had the Scottish fans on their feet with some moments of magic, but the basic errors are playing right into Ireland's hands.

"The Irish fans around me are confident their team needs only to turn the screw to put the points on the board that they need."

Jonathan Chase: Is it too much to ask that Scotland and Italy could offer any resistance for more than half a match?

John Payne: This is pathetic from Scotland.

Andrew Quinn: How many times is the ref going to let the Scots away with relentless fouling inside their 22? Where are the yellow cards?

    Denis Hickie
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"Jared Payne has shipped a bit of criticism back in Ireland so he will be happy to get on the scoreboard, but the defence from Scotland seemed questionable to me. They were spread quite wide and Ireland only had narrow options. That move was only going one way."

O'Mahony carves through the Scottish defence, the hosts really looking creaky now. Penalty Ireland, bang in front, hands in ruck, Sexton will surely pop this over to nick the title from Wales, as it stands... would you believe it, Sexton has struck a post...

Dan Bowen: If Scotland's defence could turn up that would be much appreciated... Happy for Ireland to win but by less than 20 of course!

Lloyd Rhys Hampton: Scotland need to get Mel Gibson off the bench. It's our only hope.

Wallace Darwin: If Wales do not win it, I'd rather have Ireland take the Six Nations than England.

Ireland demolish the Scotland scrum and win a penalty. Sexton pings to touch, line-out on the Scotland 22. As it stands, Ireland have had 83% of possession in the second half. Henshaw crashes through the Scotland defence... rolling maul from Ireland, O'Mahony the pivot... Payne crashes through, under the posts, try number three for Ireland... Sexton adds the extras, Ireland now level with Wales on points difference, but have fewer tries...

Wales coach Warren Gatland: "I don't think a difference of 41 points will be enough. We thought 50 points would put real pressure on the others, but I think it was an excellent second-half performance."
