    Australia 31-3 Uruguay

Right, let's crack on at Villa Park.

Quade Cooper will get things moving again - and Uruguay have actually started quite reasonably, safely gathering the restart and allowing scrum-half Agustin Ormaechea to send a teasing box kick forward.

Australia have infringed at the ensuing breakdown too, so Uruguay go to touch.

Here are some more stats for you to pick the bones out of as we wait for the second half to get moving.

That's a lot of metres made for a team with only 46% possession.

Who'd have thought, with Australia's star-studded backline up against Uruguay's team of part-timers, that it would be the South Americans who have enjoyed more possession in the first half?

Not me, that's for sure. But if Australia can add another five or 10% to their game the second period could yet get messy.

Ugo Monye is again a man speaking absolute sense. It's been one-sided and the gulf in quality is clear, but Australia have certainly not been as clinical as they might've been.

They do have five tries and a bonus point at half-time, however, so perhaps they won't be overly bothered.

Australia have this game in the bag but they need to be more accurate. Possession and accuracy brings points.

But the move breaks down, the ball goes out of play and referee Pascal Gauzere brings to a close the opening 40 minutes.

Villa Park, cheering the underdog, doesn't sound a happy place as Agustin Ormaechea tries a cheeky steal as the Australia scrum advances, but the ball clearly wasn't out and the referee puffs his whistle.

Time to head for touch? Apparently so...

Uruguay are one and a half stone lighter on average every man, which is why they struggled in the scrum. But you have to love their spirit. They keep fighting but they are not being rewarded. The Australia defence has been good, though.

They secure the ball, but the rolling maul is not going anywhere in a particular hurry. They're committing plenty of people to it again too... but it's the same result as last time, as the ball goes down and the chance is lost.

Come on then Uruguay, what have you got for us at the end of this first half?

A line-out deep inside Australia territory after an infringement at the breakdown may give them an opportunity to finish with a flourish.

That was really sharp and simple. Everything has been set off a set-piece platform to break into the Uruguayans. When the Aussies get through the phases, get through the ruck and keep the ball they look very dangerous. Uruguay look out on their feet now.

    Australia 31-3 Uruguay

Rugby union looks so, so simple when it's played like that. Safe ball at the ruck, a couple of quick passes and a perfect line cut by Ben McCalman to go over under the posts.

Quade Cooper converts, Australia are running riot in Birmingham.

A shame for the Uruguayans, as scrum-half Agustin Ormaechea's grubber through can only be shepherded into touch by Quade Cooper - but wing Rodrigo Silva was offside as he set off in pursuit.

That would've been a decent chance down in the corner.

We can talk all we want about Australia and negatives but essentially rugby is a simple game when played this way. You need to keep hold of the ball. Their fitness levels are way above Uruguay so if they keep hold of the ball they will come out on top. Today is a foregone conclusion. But for these guys now it is about getting yourself in the frame to play the bigger games.

And that is so much more like it from the Australians, first switching the ball from left to right, and then back to the opposite wing again where Henry Speight is able to touch down from only a handful of metres out.

Quade Cooper adds the extras, the Wallabies are ending this half like they started it.

Australia are back on the ball and into the Uruguayan half, with Ben McCalman showing good feet to set inside and offload.

Into the 22 now, the Wallabies sensing blood...

Dean Mumm has has an incredible year. At Exeter Chiefs he was at the centre of everything they believed in. He has become a father this week, is captain of his country and now has a try. What I love about the try is the simplicity. There were only about five phases.

Try - Mumm, missed con Cooperpublished at 27 mins

    Australia 17-3 Uruguay

And the captain for the day, Dean Mumm, has a try to celebrate.

Australia's phase play is solid and former Exeter Chiefs lock Mumm, with only Uruguay wing Leandro Leivas for company, produces an imperious hand-off before strolling over from close range.

Quade Cooper's kicking is not so imperious, however, as again he misses from the tee.

    Quade Cooper

Australia are back on the attack soon enough following a line-out, into Uruguay's 22.

Quade Cooper, also yellow carded against Argentina in July and New Zealand in August, is back on too, by the way.
