England are starting to dominate now. First, they force Uruguay into a scrum infringement and then another offence at the breakdown allows Owen Farrell to kick into the left corner, just metres from the Uruguay line.

"This is fairly symptomatic of England throughout the tournament and that is about direction. It just needs a cool, calm head to go through the phases."

England win the line-out but then more careless hands from England - this time skipper Chris Robshaw is the culprit - let Uruguay off the hook again.

Farrell and Rowntree need to go. Lancaster should stay in the set up somewhere, as he is a good guy, but not head coach

England might as well have a flagpole and some pegs - they are camped in the Uruguay 22. But Uruguay's defence remains firm, leading to Henry Slade to lose possession and cough up the turnover.

"I think Watson was in front. He was a good couple of yards in front. The referee and TMO have not looked at the offside, just the grounding. He's got away with it.

"I find that really strange. If you're Uruguay, you've got to be furious."

Phew! Normal service resumed. England's pack far outweighs their Uruguayan opponent and, unsurprisingly, they dominate the set-piece,. A raking ball out left ends up in the palms of Jack Nowell, one of the England newcomers, whose kick forward is met by speedster Anthony Watson. He beats a cluster of blue shirts in the footrace and touches down for England's 1,500th Test try. A suspicion of offside? Possibly.

    England 0-3 Uruguay

England work the ball out to the right flank, but are hauled back by referee Chris Pollock. The misdemeanour? Tom Youngs grabbing a Uruguayan opponent by the neck at the breakdown.

    Felipe Berchesi

Ah. Just the start England didn't want. Caught offside, gifting an easy chance. Uruguay fly-half Berchesi makes no mistake with his right boot. Stuart Lancaster stands up, arms folded, face expressionless.

    England v Uruguay (20:00 BST)

England head coach Stuart Lancaster speaking to ITV: "The message I’ve given is that this is the lasting memory of this tournament. This last memory needs to be positive.

"The players have been excellent this week, I’ve had to pick them up but there are plenty of reasons why these lads want to perform.

"People are obviously disappointed but we know the country is behind us and it is hugely important we put in a performance today."

Uruguay are able to name influential scrum-half Agustin Ormaechea in their starting XV after his red card against Fiji was overturned.

That means Uruguay coach Pablo Lemoine makes two changes, Felipe Berchesi replacing Alejo Duran at flyhalf and Mateo Sanguinetti coming in for Alejo Corral at loosehead prop

England have named a young team to face Pool A whipping boys Uruguay - but there is no place in the squad for cross-code convert Sam Burgess.

Henry Slade comes into the side at outside centre, with Owen Farrell at inside centre and George Ford - controversially dropped earlier in the tournament - starting at fly-half.

Nick Easter, who did not play for England for four years after 2011 World Cup, starts at number eight at the age of 37.
