Sale win the line-out but their play is predictable and it comes to nothing. Scrum to Gloucester.
Huge tackle from Paddy McAllister on TJ Ioane but the Gloucester man does not release and a penalty is conceded. Again Danny Cipriani sends a penalty to the corner from kickable range.
Gloucester 11-8 Sale
Gloucester have another penalty but this one is 46 metres out and just shy of the halfway line. Billy Twelvetrees fancies his chances though and he's right to as it sails comfortably through the post with room to spare.
Even the Sale media team tip their hat...
Gloucester 8-8 Sale
And Billy Twelvetrees sends over the penalty from 17 metres to level the scores. Danny Cipriani puts the restart out on the full. Cue donkey chants from The Shed.
Right, can Gloucester get themselves back in the game? Jonny May launches a hopeful kick forward and Nev Edwards fails to collect, the bounce goes in Gloucester's favour and Sale concede a penalty inside their own 22 after failing to release.
Right, let's rewind a second. Some number crunching from my colleague Brendon Mitchell tells me Rob Cook's try was Gloucester's first in 184 mins. It's been downhill since then.
Gloucester 5-8 Sale
Billy Twelvetrees is penalised for a high tackle on Mike Haley and Danny Cipriani sends over the three points for Sale, who now lead after conceding that early try. Breathless start at Kingsholm.
Sale have got the bit between their teeth here at Kingsholm. Another penalty is kicked to the corner but it comes to nothing after Danny Cipriani's grubber through comes back off the legs of a Gloucester back. The ball is eventually in touch and Gloucester have some respite.
Gloucester 5-5 Sale
It's a try for the debut man Nev Edwards, who collects a clever lobbed kick from former schoolmate Danny Cipriani to go over unchallenged. Wonderful link-up play from the two and what a start to Premiership rugby for Edwards.
Nice stat there from OptaJonny but Gloucester have conceded one in decent territory. Sale choose to kick to the corner but their adventure comes to nothing and Gloucester eventually win a scrum.
Sale go through 15 phases of play themselves and it leads to room on the right wing but a loose pass from Sam Tuitupou is intercepted by wing Jonny May, who is bundled into touch with what looked like a high tackle. No penalty though, just a line-out.
Gloucester 5-0 Sale
Gloucester win the line-out, recycle the ball across the pitch and 15 phases later Rob Cook eventually goes over in the left-hand corner after a smart pass from James Hook. Stunning start by the hosts.
Sale make a mess of the kick-off and allow the ball to bounce, Charlie Sharples collects and finds room on the wing but the visitors recover the ball is in touch.
Gloucester 0-0 Sale
