The dust is finally settling over Murrayfield.

England have a leg-up to the top of the early Six Nations table.

Scotland are left to stew on more what-might-have-beens.

"I would give Scotland a rocket, but I would give them another opportunity. That was Scotland's best team out there today, and we need to stick with them."

England's resident fly-halves have been on TV for a chat. It was George Ford in the 10 shirt today, with Owen Farrell at inside centre.

George Ford: "Eddie Jones told us we were playing together and how he wanted us to play. It's great playing with Owen – we think about the game similarly. Owen’s playing 12 because of his skill set and it's like having two 10s on the field."

Owen Farrell: "I’m sure he’s not picked me at 12 for my ball-carrying ability, he wants me to bring skills to the game. You always want your kicks to go over but we’ll have a look at it and put it right. You always back yourself as a kicker."

England head coach Eddie Jones on BBC One: "Dan Cole showed why before the World Cup he was rated the best tight-head prop in the world. Billy Vunipola isn't bad is he? Good caries, good defence and I thought James Haskell was good. I think Dylan Hartley did well – we were penalised six times when we had possession so it was difficult for him. I always thought we were going to win the game unless we did something silly."

England head coach Eddie Jones on BBC One: "It was always going to be difficult, we've only had two weeks together. I was happy with our application in the second half. I've no concerns over George Ford at fly-half, it was a difficult game for us and we struggled to get control at the breakdown. 

"I thought George did quite well. The set-piece won us the game in the end."

"The question for England is who goes in at 12. Manu Tuilagi has a lot of issues to get over in tersnm of injuries. You can't have two 10s, because you need someone to carry the ball to the line. Does Henry Slade come into it?"

"It was a good start for Eddie Jones. England played well. They were well above the level they hit at the World Cup, particularly against Wales and Australia. He'll be satisfied. 

"The players will be satisfied. He will have time to improve them over the next few weeks. England will be a much better team in the middle of March. Scotland had one chance to score a try, which they missed. They will be disappointed."

Bri Collins: Scotland lacked edge - England boring, almost 2003 level of boring. Didn't see anything different from the RWC 15 England.

Robert Lacey: Not a great game but England deserved the win.

Scotland head coach Vern Cotter on BBC One: "The players are very disappointed. I thought we created opportunities and didn't finish them. We weren't accurate enough. There's lots more to come from the team. We can't do much about this one but we can certainly look to the next one. We know we can do better. That game was there to be won and that’s the hard, cold fact. If we get ourselves in a similar situation we have to nail it."

England coach Eddie Jones, speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "It's a really well done job. We've won the Calcutta Cup. There are no bonus points in the Five Nations - sorry, the Six Nations - I forgot.

"We were a bit shabby in attack, but I thought that would be the case. Our tackles will mature as we spend more time together.

"We weren't great at the breakdown today, but Dan Cole showed today why he was rated the best tight-head prop in the world before the last World Cup.

"We've got the Calcutta Cup. I don't what the cup's called in Italy - maybe the Panini Cup - but we want to win that too."

Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw: "There wasn’t much between the teams, we coughed up a few balls and lost some line-outs. It's disappointing because we've been working on concentrating for 80 minutes and we made it easy for England in the second half. It’s a simple game at times and if you lose the ball you make it hard for yourselves."

England captain Dylan Hartley to BBC One: "Amazing. It’s a good start. Not the prettiest performance. It was physical and we're happy to get that one out the way. We’ll do something good and then our discipline costs us. Scotland were ferocious at the breakdown.

"We’ll enjoy tonight and focus on next week come Monday. We’ve had two weeks together, there is so much to improve on come Monday. It was huge to lead England out but I'm more happy we won as a team."

England back row Billy Vunipola, speaking to BBC One: "It was a tough trip to start with, but we had the same last year, and we hope we can carry this on through the tournament.

"We wanted to prove people wrong. We didn't do great in the World Cup, but it's gone now and we're just having fun.

"Eddie Jones is a great guy. I hope we keep the right side of him because he's a good man."

England coach Eddie Jones has faced up to the television cameras and is pretty open in his opinions - saying that Dan Cole showed why before the World Cup he was seen as "one of the best tighthead in the world", James Haskell was "very good", George Ford was "pretty good" and Billy Vunipola gets a broad grin and a "he can play".
