Try (Dickson, con Hanrahan)published at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

    Newcastle 26-18 Northampton

Well that will come as a welcome boost for Northampton Saints as scrum-half Lee Dickson spots a gap and touches down against his former side.

JJ Hanrahan adds the extras to bring them to within eight points.

  2. Penalty (Clews)published at 16:18

    London Irish 10-6 Exeter

Lodnon Irish's Theo Brophy Clews, with his first sight of the sticks in the second half, sends the ball over.

The Exiles are back to full strength with David Paice rejoining the action after 10 minutes in the sin-bin.

  3. Penalty (Goode)published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

    Newcastle 26-11 Northampton

He does not miss those. Andy Goode, 15 metres from the line, adds another three points for his side.

Newcastle have played this game perfectly so far, forcing Saints into mistakes. The visitors need more than two converted tries to get them back into the game.

  4. Newcastle 23-11 Northamptonpublished at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

Northampton need something to get back into this, so they bring JJ Hanrahan on for Stephen Myler.

And Saints give away yet another penalty for Sam Dickinson going in at the side of a Newcastle maul... Andy Goode could go for the points here.

  5. London Irish 7-6 Exeterpublished at 16:14

Olly Woodburn with an intercept and it looks like he has clean air to exploit. But just as the Exeter winger starts to pump those legs, Ian Nagle gets to him and while he manages to regain his feet the attack is snuffed out.

    Crucial intervention there.

Northampton can't get out of their own half and are eventually penalised when Kieran Brookes holds on for too long.

Andy Goode slots his third penalty of the day and he puts more daylight between the two side.

  7. London Irish 7-6 Exeterpublished at 16:10

Just a reminder, London Irish start the second half with 14 men with David Paice still in the sin bin.

Ofisa Treviranus' converted try is the difference right now as London Irish lead second-placed Exeter.

The Exiles played with great endeavour in the first-half. Can they keep it up?

  10. Catch up with all the actionpublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

There were wins for Saracens, Worcester, Wasps and Harlequins this weekend.

Missed any of the weekend's live action? Catch up with our match reports...

Saracens remain top of the Premiership, eight points clear of second-placed Exeter before kick-off, while Wasps did their top-four aspirations no harm at all with their win at Bath.

And congratulations to Worcester, who ended a long, long wait for a victory by beating Sale.

But Manu Tuilagi's comeback for Leicester wasn't enough to lift Leicester against Quins on Friday.

  11. Saracens prop rushes from birth to playpublished at 16:01

Now for a cute baby picture and an odd rugby story...

Saracens prop Juan Figallo saw his baby son born before lunch in Stevenage, and then left to help his side to Premiership victory by teatime yesterday.

Yep, you read that right. The 27-year-old Argentina international had what he called "one of the best days of his life" yesterday, helping 14-man Saracens beat Gloucester having seen his first child join the world just hours earlier.

The Saracens player was told he could sit out the match against Gloucester, but insisted on racing to north London for kick-off soon after the birth.

"I gave him a big kiss and kissed my wife, then I asked her if I could play," the Argentine said.

She said YES! Congratulations to the new mum and dad.

Away from rugby, there's plenty of FA Cup action for you to get your teeth stuck into.

After West Ham thrashed Blackburn 5-1 earlier today, Tottenham are 1-0 down at home to Crystal Palace, while Chelsea v Manchester City looks like it'll be a corker.

You can watch that game on BBC One, or follow it here.

  13. Half-timepublished at 15:53

    London Irish 7-6 Exeter

The scrum collapses and Exeter have a penalty. With the last kick of the half, Gareth Steenson lands his second penalty to get second-placed Exeter to within a point of bottom side London Irish.

  14. Half-timepublished at 15:51 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

    Newcastle 20-11 Northampton

So, what do you make of that half, ladies and gentleman?

Newcastle have looked excellent, if I'm allowed to say so. Northampton, though, need to step up their game if they want to keep up the pressure on their play-off rivals.

  15. London Irish 7-3 Exeterpublished at 15:49

Exeter's Moray Low with a crunching hit and he comes out worse for wear as he complains about pain in his shoulder almost immediately.

Some body-shuddering hits out there today.

  16. Penalty (Goode)published at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

    Newcastle 20-11 Northampton

Newcastle have played unlike a what you'd expect from team currently second-from-bottom in the Premiership. Pace, precision and steel have defined their game so far today.

And they are two scores ahead thanks to the ever-reliable boot of Andy Goode from the tee.

  17. Sin-bin (Paice)published at 15:47

    London Irish 7-3 Exeter

The penalty count proves too much and London Irish's David Paice pays the price as he is the latest to get the attention of the referee. So it is 10 minutes in the sin-bin and the Exiles have to see out the remaining three minutes of the half a man down.

    Quote Message

You've got to give Newcastle credit because they are finding gaps with pace. It's difficult to stop somebody when they are going at you at pace and for your outside shoulder.

  19. London Irish 7-3 Exeterpublished at 15:55

After all the pressure, London Irish concede a penalty a the line out and Exeter survive.

  20. London Irish 7-3 Exeterpublished at 15:43

Quick handles and a paddled pass keeps the ball alive for London Irish.

As the ball reaches the left edge, it is swung back to the right as the Exiles get to within 10 metres of the line.

The ball is dropped with the line in sight, but play is brought back for an earlier penalty and Irish go again.
