You cannot take your eyes off this game for a second.

Newcastle supporters are baying for blood at Kingston Park. Northampton Saints' Lee Dickson appears to tread on an opposition player, but it looks like it was accidental and referee Wayne Barnes takes no action.

No Newcastle player complains, but the fans are not happy.

Exeter settling into the contest now. Ball security is much improved and they shift the ball across the line and back again looking for weakness in the Exiles' resistance.

But for as good as they look, London Irish's defence is immense as they shut the visitors down and win the penalty.

After going behind, Northampton have reacted well, and Jamie Gibson has his first try for Saints after being driven over by his team-mates.

Stephen Myler can't convert, though, and Newcastle hold a slender lead.

We have all the makings of a cracking rugby match here.

  20. No try (Watson)published at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 21 February 2016

    Newcastle 0-0 Northampton

What a stunning start to the match that almost was!

Newcastle's Marcus Watson shows a superb piece of individual brilliance, sidestepping Northampton full-back Ben Foden and touching down.

But Wayne Barnes goes up to the TMO and they find a block in the build up. Shame that was disallowed but rules are rules.
