  1. That's all from uspublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

One thumping victory? Check. One nail biting finish? Check.

We could hardly have had two more contrasting games this afternoon but both were equally absorbing, which I guess is why we all love rugby so much.

Give it five days and we'll hopefully have more of the same from round four of the Premiership, which starts with a tasty-looking south west derby between Bristol and Exeter on Friday night.

    Until then, goodbye.

  2. 'Today's performance was reasonable'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards speaking on BT Sport:

"The performance was ok. We butchered a number of opportunities and if we'd taken our chances we would've been home and dry.

"The boys decided to go for the drop-goal and you support them on that.

"There were a few times we could've got a penalty in the final scrum but JP Doyle is never going to make a decision there."

Leicester edged a close encounter with Newcastle at Kingston Park as they secured their second win of the season.

Newcastle took an early 10-0 lead courtesy of Juan Pablo Socino's finish and a Mike Delany penalty.

But Mike Fitzgerald scored his first Premiership try and Freddie Burns' slotted three penalties either side of the break to put the Tigers ahead.

Joel Hodgson made it a one-point game with 10 to play but missed a late drop-goal as Leicester held on for victory.

Leicester Director of Rugby Richard Cockerill talking on BT Sport:

"It was very disappointing from our point of view and we're lucky to go away with the points.

"There's no lack of effort but we need to make smarter decisions.

"Our ball control was poor today and the scrum was a mess all day."

  5. As it stands...published at 17:07 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

So what does today's action mean for the Premiership table?

Well Wasps, unsurprisingly after this afternoon, are now the league's highest scorers but are below Bath and Saracens on points difference at the top.

Bristol are bottom with just one point from their opening three games, while Leicester's dramatic triumph at Newcastle lifts Aaron Mauger's side up to fourth.

Wasps scored 10 tries, five in each half, as they dismantled newly-promoted Bristol to make it three Premiership wins from three.

Christian Wade, Eliot Daly and Ashley Johnson went over twice apiece, while Danny Cipriani grabbed his first try since returning to the club this summer.

  7. FT: Newcastle 13-14 Leicesterpublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

Well, after a fairly uninspiring half of rugby, the game finally came alive once the clock was on red.

Newcastle unable to win it at the end as Joel Hodgson's drop-goal attempt flew wide from what looked an easy position.

Not fluid, running rugby but a proper contest and Leicester came out on top having been 10-0 down in the first half.

Juan Pablo Socino's try and Delany's penalty put Newcastle ahead but Tigers reeled them in through a Mike Fitzgerald try and the boot of Freddie Burns.

    Newcastle 13-14 Leicester

    What a finish!

Newcastle do go for the drop goal, the ball is given to Joel Hodgson, but he's far too close and he smashes the attempt wide.

Leicester edge it by a point.

Newcastle secure the ball and their forwards are battling away. Will they go for a drop goal?

Time is up, but it's not over yet!

This hasn't been the prettiest of rugby contests, and it's all on this final scrum.

JP Doyle calls for a reset as players stand up, but should it have been a penalty there?

    Newcastle 13-14 Leicester

The clock's on red and Newcastle have one last opportunity. They're five metres out but there's a nasty head injury and JP Doyle has to halt play.

We will go back for a scrum once the injured Freddie Burns has received treatment.

What drama at the end of this game.

Some more sound advice from JP Doyle, as his spat with Tom Youngs continues.

'That's the call Tom, get over it.'

Meanwhile, Newcastle have the feed at the scrum, and they secure the ball but it's lost forward in the tackle.

Time is running out for the Falcons as they have to reset from their own half.

    Three minutes to play.

So Leicester will have to protect their one point lead with only 14 men on the field.

Peter Betham saw yellow for never getting back into an onside position, but can Newcastle find a way through?

    Newcastle 13-14 Leicester

Falcons finally take flight as Vereniki Goneva sets off through the Tigers defence.

Daniel Temm receives the ball on the wing and he dives for the line, but we go to the TMO and his foot is in touch.

JP Doyle goes back for the penalty, Betham is sent to the bin, and Hodgson slots an easy penalty.

One point in it with nine minutes to play...

  15. Penalty (Burns)published at 16:31 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

    Newcastle 10-14 Leicester

Freddie Burns corrects his mistake and this one flies over.

Newcastle will have to produce something special now, but they've only been in the Leicester half on two or three occasions.

  16. Missed penalty (Burns)published at 16:30 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

    Newcastle 10-11 Leicester

Leicester miss the chance to extend their lead to four points, and it looks like it's going to go to the wire as we enter the last 15 minutes.

In other news, the referee's mic is bringing much more excitement than the actual rugby as JP Doyle gets into an argument with Tigers replacement hooker Tom Youngs.

'Tom, you're not the referee.' A gentle reminder.

And now we've entered into a kicking competition. Some ropey ones in there but Newcastle fair better and start to move the ball wide.

They draw the penalty as JP Doyle pulls Leicester for taking the man out in the air. A borderline call at best.

But swings and roundabouts as they lose their own lineout.

Well it's not been a fluid start to the second half, a distinct lack of silky skills on display here.

Newcastle are failing to put any real attacks together as Socino punts the ball straight out on the full. Oh dear.

    Wasps 70-22 Bristol

We had 13 tries, 10 of which went to the hosts, and Wasps have sent out a real statement to the rest of the Premiership here.

It's three wins from three for Dai Young's side and they join Bath and Saracens on 14 points.

  20. Penalty (Burns)published at 16:11 British Summer Time 18 September 2016

And Leicester take the lead for the first time in this game off the boot of Freddie Burns.
