    FT: Bristol 17-41 Exeter

So Exeter Chiefs will head home to Devon with a full compliment of points in the bag and will be ready to head on the road again next Friday night to face Northampton.

Bristol did take steps forward this evening but they now have the dauting task of hosting the reigning Premiership and European champions Saracens next weekend.

  3. 'Step in the right direction'published at 22:04 British Summer Time 23 September 2016

    FT: Bristol 17-41 Exeter

Bristol's director of rugby Andy Robinson was pleased with element of his side's performances but knows that they still have worked to do as he told BT Sport after the match:

"We asked the side to bring some energy and physicality this week and I think that we did that.

"But now it’s about being able to keep your head when the intensity rises and to make clear decisions and that is where I thought that Exeter were excellent.

"It’s important for us to keep working hard and to keep our heads as the play is going on."

Exeter Chiefs’ double try scorer Olly Woodburn continued his excellent form at the club as he made the most metres of any Chief on the night.

Woodburn joined from Bath last season and shared why he’s enjoying life in Devon to BT Sport:

"I like the way that Exeter give wingers like myself a chance to get their hands on the ball. We’re not just stuck to the wing instead we get to show our skills."

The scoreboard shows a comfortable victory for the Devonians and while they did bag the bonus point early in the second half they'll want to sharpen up further.

For Bristol it certainly was a step in the right direction, Andy Robinson's pack really stepped up to the mark and their director of rugby should take a number of positives from the outing.

    FT: Bristol 17-41 Exeter

We're into the last minute and while the result was put to bed a long time ago Bristol are still looking to find their bonus point with try.

They lose possession as Exeter lock Geoff Parling shows great commitment to dive over the ball and shortly after Tom Foley blows the full-time whistle.

  7. 'Not smart from Bristol'published at 21:34 British Summer Time 23 September 2016

That's poor game management from Bristol in the last 10 minutes. The losing bonus point was there for the taking if they could have generated some field position. That's not smart play. The efforts there, but we have to be smarted and have to execute better.

  8. try

Try (Hill, con Steenson)published at 78 mins

    Bristol 17-41 Exeter

Exeter have been a touch frustrated since half-time because they haven't finished off opportunities but finally Sam Hill changes that.

The centre takes a difficult offload off the ground and then swerves around three Bristol defenders to score.

Of course Gareth Steenson nails the conversion with ease.

  9. To me, to you!published at 76 mins

    Bristol 17-34 Exeter

One steal followed by another steal and eventually Bristol have the ball back in their hands but they're pinned right back and will need to go the length of the field to find their bonus point try.

Right now that looks like a tough ask...

  10. Final flourish?published at 74 mins

    Bristol 17-34 Exeter

A high tackle from Exeter's back rower Dave Dennis gives Bristol the penalty.

Fly-half Tusi Pisi boots the ball up field but Bristol miss their man at the lineout... it's a big error and one that will disappoint their coaches.

  11. 'Barreled him over'published at 21:24 British Summer Time 23 September 2016

    Bristol 17-34 Exeter

That was really good play from the forwards. They withstood the initial drive from Exeter, turned around the corner and once Crumpton got around he only had one man in front of him and managed to barrel him over.

  12. try

Try (Crumpton, con Williams)published at 69 mins

    Bristol 17-34 Exeter

Bristol's pack have been industrious since the break and they're rewarded with another five points.

The home side set up a powerful driving maul and then Max Crumpton charges over the top of Exeter's Will Chudley to score their third try of the evening.

This time Jordan Williams steps up to the kicking tee and nails it from out wide. It's a glorious conversion.

  13. Friday night lightspublished at 69 mins

    Bristol 10-34 Exeter

The 15,065 fans at Ashton Gate are in fine voice and are enjoying this set of Friday night lights.

There are plenty more sets of Friday night lights here this season ahead and with Bristol on the attack the home fans might see another try tonight.

  14. Listen to the whistle!published at 63 mins

    Bristol 10-34 Exeter

Tom Foley blows the whistle for a penalty but Exeter lock Geoff Parling and Bristol winger Charlie Amesbury don't hear as they're racing to the try line at the other end of the field.

The winger thinks he's scored a fantastic try only to be pulled back... ouch that's cruel!

  15. Little breatherpublished at 61 mins

    Bristol 10-34 Exeter

There's a short break in play as Exeter's full back Lachie Turner is receiving some treatment on the floor. It's been an intense start to the second half so I'm sure that the breather is welcomed particularly by the forwards!

  16. Penalty (Steenson)published at 58 mins

    Bristol 10-34 Exeter

Bristol's defence is frustrating Exeter and that's why Gareth Steenson chooses to kick for goal instead of going for the corner.

The Exeter fly-half's radar is outstanding, he could probably make the kicks blindfolded, and once again he adds the three.

  17. Work, work, workpublished at 57 mins

    Bristol 10-31 Exeter

Bristol are working so hard to keep Exeter contained but a simple penalty ends their endeavour, one that you'd call a coach killer, and Gareth Steenson pops the ball into the corner.

It shows what they can do; if Bristol can get the ball down there and control it they can come away with some points.

  19. try

    Try (McMillan)published at 52 mins

    Bristol 10-31 Exeter

Bristol's pack take matters into their own hands and rumble forwards like an HGV. For once Exeter can't do anything about it and the crowd erupts as prop Ross McMillan delivers the five points.

  20. Little platform?published at 51 mins

    Bristol 5-31 Exeter

Bristol have the ball in their control and are looking to make the most of it. Dave Dennis, Exeter's new summer signing, is pinged at the ruck and the home side head to the corner.

It's a position they can work from. Let's see what they can do!
