Take a breath. That was really good stuff from both sides, a real advert for the Premiership.

The international class on show was evident, with Taulupe Faletau and Ben Tapuai showing their skills for Bath, while Sarries had Sean Maitland and Alex Goode showing flashes of quality too.

Pulsating, surging first-half of rugby at the Rec, and a scoreline that will delight the sold-out Rec.

For the most part Bath were impressively dominant, causing problems at the breakdown and the set-piece.

However, Saracens are champions for a reason and showed their title credentials with a well-worked try on the back of pressure before the break.

Big 40 to come, and a scoreline that leaves us nicely poised at the break.

  3. try

    Try (Maitland)published at 38 mins

    Bath 11-8 Saracens

It had been coming. Saracens get the try their immense weight of pressure deserved.

The ball was whizzed wide after a series of drives through the middle and put Sean Maitland in out wide.

Question marks perhaps about the tackling in the corner, but a strong finish by the New Zealand-born Scotland international.

No good from the tee by Alex Lozowski.

Saracens don't get try, inconclusive proof of a clear, legal touch down.

They do get a 5m scrum though. Big opportunity.

Closing in on the break, and truth be told, we've seen little of the Saracens attacking threat.

However, they've just won a penalty at the scrum and Ben Spencer hoiks it into touch.

Taulupe Faletau is back on after his eye assessment and Zak Mercer returns to the bench.

    Bath 11-3 Saracens

Saracens struggling to make ground from their possession, they're playing a territory game at the moment. That said, we did see some dancing feet from Alex Goode a moment ago.

Bath playing with a bit of invention in reply, with that points cushion.

    Bath 11-3 Saracens

Bath trying everything to get a second try, cutting runs, big mauls but this time Saracens are equal to it - gaining a penalty for not releasing.

They need some breathing space here, and get it with a big Alex Goode kick to touch. Line-out in midfield.

    Bath 11-3 Saracens

I tell you what, Ben Tapuai has a boot like a steamhammer. Thumps another penalty into touch and Bath are again in the danger zone.

  14. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Bath 11-3 Saracens

Saracens really look shellshocked at the moment, Aled Brew almost pounced for an intercept a moment ago but the ball spilled forward.

Really impressive display so far by Bath but we know how good Sarries are, they're used to winning.

  15. try

    Try (Clark)published at 24 mins

    Bath 11-3 Saracens

The pressure was building and Bath kept the ball alive beautifully, fizzing the ball across the field to punch holes.

When the ball came to the right edge, Ben Tapuai powered through and popped the ball up nicely to Max Clark who had a clear route to the line for his first Premiership try.

Tom Homer missed the conversion kick but it's an eight-point lead.

Bath starting to dominate the ruck, pinging Maro Itoje at the breakdown this time. Another penalty.

Concern for Bath though as Taulupe Faletau looks as though he's got an eye injury.

    He's been immense so far.

Tom Homer keeps the scoreboard ticking over with another well-taken penalty. The tee proves profitable for Bath once again.
