It's an interception try! Gloucester lead!

England's Jonny May runs three quarters of the length of the field with pace to open the scoring tonight.

Stade had just started to look like they were getting on top, but May has punished them for one mistake.

    Billy Burns adds the extras.

It doesn't sound all bad then!

If you're joining us late, Rachel was an absolute hero in allowing her husband to rearrange their anniversary break so he could be at Murrayfield tonight.

On that very subject, has anyone else got any nice tales of wriggling out of family occasions to make sporting events? We want to hear the best of them via #bbcrugby on Twitter.

Five European finals, no title. If tomorrow we're using the words perennial bridesmaids to describe Clermont, who face Saracens in the Champions Cup final, then the same phrase can be applied to Stade Francais.

    Gloucester 0-0 Stade Francais

This is the eighth Anglo-French final in this competition, with English clubs winning five of the seven before tonight.

Gloucester - aiming to make that six from eight - kick long again through Billy Burns but Stade Francais claim it.

No running rugby has been played just yet.

    Gloucester 0-0 Stade Francais

Billy Burns' boot looks for Charlie Sharples early on down the right and, although the Gloucester wing can't claim the high catch, the Cherry and Whites maintain possession.

But an early kicking game ensues and the ball is changing hands a lot in the opening exchanges.

Andrew Priestley: Hoping Gloucester can lift a European trophy with ex-Ulstermen John Afoa, Paddy McAllister and David Humphreys in their ranks.

Rachel Armitage: I let hubby rearrange our anniversary break so he could be at Murryfield cheering on Gloucester, is there a Best Wife Ever prize?

You'd have to be a contender, Rachel. How's he planning to make it up to you?

Having finished seventh in the French Top 14 this season, Stade Francais - like Gloucester - are hoping to lift their spirits with a trophy after a relatively-disappointing league season by their high standards.

In Europe, they are perennial nearly men, having reached four European finals without success.

They were twice Champions Cup runners-up, in 2001 and 2005, and this is their third Challenge Cup final in the space of six years.

They lost by a single point to Harlequins in 2011 and were well beaten by Leinster in 2013.

Led by Italy captain Sergio Parisse, if they play like they did against Bath in the semi-final, they'll be very, very tough to stop tonight.

Gloucester v Stade Francais (20:00 BST)

Gloucester director of rugby David Humphreys told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"Everybody knows how important this game is for the club. We have the opportunity still to get Gloucester back into the Champions Cup.

"That's been the motivation since the start of the year.

"We need to make sure we cut out some of the mistakes that have plagued us earlier in the season.

"You have got to look forward to a cup final. This is our opportunity to finish the season on a high."

They've flattered to deceive, Gloucester, because they've got some top players in their team. But a win tonight, a trophy and a chance of qualifying for next season's Champions Cup would be the cherry on the cake for them.

Gloucester v Stade Francais (20:00 BST)

The Cherry and Whites reached tonight's final thanks to a colossal defensive effort at La Rochelle, a side who had held an unbeaten home record all season.

Billy Burns scored all 16 of Gloucester's points as they toppled the French Top 14 leaders by two points.

Tonight's French opponents Stade Francais also came through an extremely close, hard-fought semi-final, as Jules Plisson's last-minute drop-goal won a thriller against Bath in Paris.

Gloucester bid for Champions Cup play-off place

European Challenge Cup programmeImage source, Rex Features

For Gloucester, as well as a much-desired trophy, tonight is also about them trying to prolong their season, as they hope to keep alive their hopes of playing Champions Cup rugby next term.

The final Champions Cup qualification spot will be decided by a four-way play-off later this month.

Northampton Saints - by virtue of finishing seventh in the Premiership - are currently due to face Connacht in the semi-finals, but they would be replaced should an English team win the Challenge Cup.

So if Gloucester can be that English team tonight, they'll replace Saints and could then meet Stade Francais - who are already guaranteed a spot in the other semi-final - in another final within 15 days.

The semi-finals are due to take place on 19-21 May, with the final set for 26-28 May.
