Sale have had their problems as prop Ross Harrison is taken off and 20-year-old academy product and Portugal international Diogo Ferreira is on for his debut.

However, AJ MacGinty knocks over a penalty to extend the lead.

    Saracens 0-0 Bristol

A classy finish from Chris Ashton who gathers his own kick forward to place down and the man off to Toulon gets the first points of the game... but no, a check with the TMO shows Ashton is offside.

    Exeter 0-7 Northampton

This is a lengthy injury break, which will be a concern for England and Lions followers as well as Northampton fans.

Courtney Lawes, who has been playing at flanker, trudges off and down the tunnel for a head injury assessment - he's replaced for now by Sam Dickinson.

Play continues with Exeter piling forward once more.

Exeter prop Harry Williams is on as an early replacement for the Chiefs. This will be of particular interest to the England scrum coach Neal Hatley, who is sitting just behind me here at Sandy Park, with Williams part of the touring squad to Argentina.

Exeter have had almost 70% of the possession but the basics have let them down at both ends.

It's having an effect on the Sandy Park crowd, who seemed nervous before the game and have gone uncharacteristically quiet.

The referee stops play as Courtney Lawes takes a blow to the head - Saints have already had to reshuffle with captain Tom Wood missing out, so let's hope Lawes can continue.

    Leicester 3-7 Sale

Well, moments after being restored to the full compliment of 15 men Sale hooker, and captain for the day, Rob Webber crosses from a driving line-out.

AJ MacGinty nails the conversion from wide out.

Saints eventually clear their lines via a scrum, after two Exeter knock-ons.

Dave Ewers has had to come off for the hosts, replaced by Julian Salvi - it must be a third or fourth injury this season for the unlucky Ewers.

British & Irish Lions squad member Jack Nowell has been in the thick of things at Sandy Park...

  9. Postpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

    Saracens 0-0 Bristol

Still scoreless at Saracens where the champions are finding it yard to break down a stubborn defence.

They've seen a lot of the ball but Owen Farrell's missed penalty attempt is the closest they have come to scoring.

Despite their early lead, Northampton won't be getting carried away.

Jim Mallinder's men have seen their performances improve in recent weeks but his squad have not been doing the business when it comes to closing out a win.

Exeter have a spell of pressure as they look to level things up, Harry Williams leading the charge, but Saints are keeping them at arm's length for now.

  11. Penalty (Burns)published at 15:13 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

    Leicester 3-0 Sale

First points at Welford Road through the departing Freddie Burns as Leicester do gain some points with the extra man.

It's been all Tigers so far.

    Exeter 0-7 Northampton

To make matters worse for Rob Baxter's side, Greg Holmes has had to be replaced by prop Harry Williams, and it doesn't look good for Dave Ewers either.

The back row has been ravaged by injury and appears to be struggling with his knee.

On the pitch Northampton are being patient on the ball and have grown into this, as we pass the 10 minute mark.

Saracens, England and Lions fly-half Owen Farrell is off target with his first effort at goal at a windy Allianz Park.

Already-relegated Bristol competing well though in the opening stages in North London.

They'd barely had a touch of the ball, but a loose pass from Ollie Devoto has gifted Northampton a runaway try.

Irishman JJ Hanrahan is the grateful recipient, intercepting and charging over - he also converts.

If there's been one weakness for Exeter recently it has been conceded tries from interceptions...

The hosts have started with real purpose at a typically blustery Sandy Park.

They go the first two-and-a-half minutes with possession and no stoppages, getting deep in Northampton territory.

Jack Nowell in particular has the bit between his teeth.

  18. Postpublished at 15:03 British Summer Time 29 April 2017

    Leicester 0-0 Sale

Retiring Sale scrum-half Mike Phillips makes his presence known within the first couple of minutes as he and Leicester prop Dan Cole have a few handbags.

Early Sharks penalty and they kick to the corner rather than going for the posts.
