The hooter has sounded. But the Blues are not done with this half of rugby.

The are running and popping, keeping the ball alive and probing the Lions defence.

CJ Stander gets a tackle all wrong on opposite number Steven Luatua, catching his man round the neck.

High tackle. And a penalty shot for Stephen Perofeta...

An absolute monsoon has just broken over Eden Park. A thick curtain of rain drops down on the action.

Johnny Sexton puts up a canny up and under. It comes steepling out of the cloud but Blues full-back Michael Collins claims it well.

"Pouring with rain again here at Eden Park. Expect Lions to tighten things up further. As I type a scuffle breaks out with Dan Cole and Maro Itoje in the thick of it."

It was a lazy prop, miles in front of the Blues kicker and making no attempt to get back, who levelled Dan Biggar.

    No try.

Back for the scrum in the Blues 22m.

Rieko Ioane scoops up the loose ball after Dan Biggar gets splattered in the tackle.

The Blues winger motors in under the posts.

But was the tackler offside in the build-up?

Maro Itoje is hollering like a banshee as Blues hooker James Parsons stands on the line-out oche.

Ken Owens comes streaming through to put more pressure on fly-half Stephen Perofeta.

There is a lot more mongrel about this set of Lions than last Saturday's pussycats.

Territory ✅ possession ✅ driving maul ✅ all the hallmarks of good northern hemisphere rugby. Scrum-half Rhys Webb is looking very assured, lock Courtney Lawes seems very strong in every department.

The Lions are playing Test match tactics, while I feel the Blues are caught between wanting to win but equally trying to entertain. In conditions which are probably worse than how it looks on TV, that means they are playing into the Lions' hands.

Stephen Perofeta, the young Blues 10, isn't controlling the game at all well - this morning is a big learning curve for him.

The only area to improve so far for the Lions is the cheap penalties they're giving away. All in all a good opening 30 minutes from the tourists.

Justin Tipuric does some fine tidying-up work around the front of the line-out before getting up in the kick-chase to tackle wing Matt Duffie.

Quietly effective so far from the Wales flanker.

The Lions scrum is rock-solid on their own five metres.

Ken Owens and the props at either shoulder get hearty slaps on their backs from the rest of the pack.

The Lions have out-muscled the Blues up front so far.

"Move sir," says Courtney Lawes to the referee as he lines up another big hit. The England lock has been prominent so far.

Excellent kick chase from Jack Nowell and CJ Stander who tie up Rieko Ioane before he can get his wheels spinning.

Those two have both been good. As has Dan Biggar.

The Wales fly-half finds a good touch and has got his backline moving slickly.

    Leigh Halfpenny

A penalty as the set-piece slides south.

This time the Lions opt for the easy points rather than proving a point.

Rhys Webb has had a strong start to the match with the ball in hand and he shows his kicking chops there as he finds the hole in the Blues back three and finds touch deep in the enemy 22m.

Lions have a scrum 20m out, bang central and with option either way.

Dan Biggar could not have asked for a better spot for an attack.

"Plenty of eyebrows raised here in the press box when the Lions turned down the points to kick for the corner; wholly vindicated. Encouraging signs from the Lions maul, which has to be a weapon come the Test series."

Despite being 5-0 down after an early try, the Lions have produced a more cohesive effort this time.

Last weekend they were hesitant and lacked fluency. Today seems a lot more cohesive, as you would expect from the extra time they have spent on the training park.

All this being said, defensively the intent to get off the line and put the Blues under pressure is plain to see, however the connectivity of the units needs a bit of work as was shown by the Blues' opening try.

Kicking to the corner rather than taking the points shows that despite the negativity in the press the guys are positive and focused - 7-5 to the Lions after 18 minutes. Game on!
