Former Lions and England wingerA breathless start to the Lions' fourth game on tour in perfect conditions under the roof at the home of the Highlanders. There was a very bright start from the home team and Waisake Naholo, the All Blacks wing, came within inches of dotting down after a few minutes.
With the unfortunate tour-ending injury to Stuart Hogg, tonight is a big night for Jared Payne, and after three minutes he put his hand up with that crucial tackle just short of his tryline to keep the Highlanders winger out.
The Highlanders seem the most potent at this point with ball in hand.
The Lions have set up well though, with good line-speed in defence and the set-piece going well again. The only difference in terms of attack is that they don't seem to have the natural ball-playing ability to move possession into the wider channels, as the Lions forwards displayed against the Crusaders.
However, this team is powerful and some bone crunching carries early on are great indications that they can get enough front foot ball. All that's needed now (something that evaded the Lions so far on tour) is to execute and score tries!
