Kieran Read takes the pragmatic approach.

He decides he will punish Johnny Sexton straying offside with a three-point kick.

If it goes it pushes the lead out beyond two converted tries with 20 minutes to go.

Sublime skill allied with simple, devastating execution, and just like that the All Blacks score their second try through Rieko Iaone. That offload under pressure from All Blacks captain Read through traffic off the floor in the rain is as good as you'll see.

It's prompted a bristling response from Lions boss Warren Gatland. Johnny Sexton is on and the dynamic of the Lions gameplan will change. The axis of Sexton and Owen Farrell will give extra width and attacking potency to the Lions as they try to rein in this 12 point deficit.

Warren Gatland throws his joker on the table.

Centre Ben Te'o, who has been very good, makes way for Johnny Sexton at inside centre.

It is a revival of a double-playmaker axis that has only been tried out once on tour - against the Crusaders after Stuart Hogg's injury.

What a time to squeeze the Lions scrum - and the pick up and flick by Keiran Read is just incredible.

As soon as he gets that ball away the rest the New Zealand backs understand the damage that fine piece of skill has done to the Lions defence and they rarely fail to convert. Very difficult for the Lions from here.

    Rieko Ioane (con Barrrett)

The videotape cannot save the Lions.

Instead is shows up a superb offload from Kieran Read from face down in the muck to spring the move.

It was scored by the flying Ioane, but the new Kiwi front row claim an assist for that try. They sent the Lions into reverse to set up that try.

Beauden Barrett slots from way out wide and the Lions have a mountain to climb.

    But, no.

The ref calls it back for a knock-on against the Lions centre.

Further evidence that Liam Williams provides a far greater threat from full-back.

His attacking instinct is just what the Lions need, in a game when opportunities are scarce.

As Wayne Pivac told the BBC this week, he always plays what's in front of him, always looks to counter.

It was a rare loose kick from the All Blacks, but he glided through the first line of defence with a lethal combination of speed and footwork.

The decision to draft him into the Test team already looks to have paid off.
